Photographer’s Note
Facade from one of the Gopurams or entrances of the big temple of Chidambaram.
Chidambaram is well known in Tamil Nadu for two reasons, first one is that, in this temple lies the original Nataraja statue, the cosmic dance of Shiva.
You all have seen a statue of shiva, dancing inside a circle, and with a human figure laying under his feet that means the ego, and Shiva destroying it, and the circle, meaning the whole universe and a proyection of the dance of shiva.
Also Chidambaram is well known for being one of the temples representing one of the five elements of the universe, in this case, the element is called "Akash". Meaning the ether or space, the only one that can not be seen.

Interesting. I've not been to India, so what I'm seeing here is something that I've not seen before. I like the POV of looking up and exploring all the different carvings as I go along. Well done!

Thanks for sharing. Nowadays Chidambaram has not so good name as fake Brahmins are enforcing themself to tourists, the maintenance of the temple is neglected by even dump at the gates. On the other hand it has the most marvolous hindou-service that you are allowed to assist as a foreigner.
Clear photo to show the decay.
