its a swastika and not all that odd given the location.
the swastika is now considered and recognized primarily as the symbol of the nazis, but it was around long before that. today its still seen in parts of asia and connected to the one of the types of hinduism, sorry, i forget which one, and buddhism.
it means one of the gods if its pointing one way, and something else (temple i think) if its pointing the other way. i think that now most of the new swastikas are all facing left instead of right due to the nazi use of the symbol.
