Photographer’s Note
Two steps from the South-Gate of the Meenakshi Temple one of the many Sari shops where Sarees and Sari slesgirls glitter in the night by the shops light.
She was shy but charmed when seeing me coming but she knew me already from before, passing here several times. To make her at ease I kept on talking while putting my camera on the counter between all the saris and aimed at her blindly, so here the result while she was listening to me :)).
Behind her the stamp to mark "SOLD" ... on the wrapped salesware of course ...
The Kanchi Silk Sarees are most famous in the South and in Tamil called podavai (sari means in Tamil actually 'yes' or 'ok'). The typical Dravidian style of draping the Sari is the pinkosu, or pleated rosette, at the waist.
She was not dressed in Sari but in a practical long shirt and wide trousers tight at the ankle with a loose scarf, a typical young women style-dressing.
Enjoy
a special for a Coimbatore and Punjab man ... :)).
The Iso's were getting high again here at 19hundred hours night.

Dag Henk
Mooi stralend kopje, met heel mooie kleurrijke achtergrond. Ik hou niet zoveel van schuine opnames, maar in dit geval kan het best, zeker wanneer ik je verhaal erbij heb.
Leuke foto.

hi henk,
smart selection of the image for the "tilt" technique, works here very well, imo;
i think its the verticals of the linen "boxes" that complement this tilt thing (and the other way round);
nice work,
best wishes, j.

Ciao Henk!!! thank you for this portrait! Sai shops are places that I like so much for all those clors... and you made shine also this lady's eyes.
And you make me remember that I got some dresses made for mne in a Madurai tailor some years ago.
Ciao!!!

From the hip....you must have a pretty silent shutter there Henk, you'd think she'd here you from so close. As it is the result is nice (if a little detached feeling) I think the tilt and the great blocks of colour make it better.
Cheers

Bonjour mon ami Henk,

Hello Henk!
A nice snapshot of the Saree salesgirl!!! Nice colours and very sharp even at ISO 3200.
The sharpness shows me the limit of my slide film stuff, with ISO 3200 it will be very grainy. :)
Greetings,

Hi Henk,
One of the things that more attracted attention of me in India was the care with which the women dress, her elegance and her neatness. This shot is a good sample of it. I like very much the colors, the blue dominance one in the upper and the red one in the down one. You have divided the shot in diagonal, it works very well. A pleasure for the sight. Thank you.
Angel.

Very nice shot of a very nice and neat woman. The folded and colorful textiles are a fitting background. She is looking straight but your view point is low, is it not?

The tilt works well here and I like the way the subject is looking beyond the camera. As always, beautiful vibrant colours and excellent quality. Am still intrigued about the ISO sensitivities you use.
Best wishes

A stolen smile always look so pure, so uninterested... You should have, experimental wise, tried the same picture after telling her you made a photo-reportage on undiscovered beauties of the world for a fashion-magazine...:)First click, and then you show her the camera still aimed at her, and wait for the blush... last click!
A nice report indeed of the expression of self on one's face!:D
But of course the pure eye-to-eye smile remains THE smile...

HI Henk,
Very nice tilted picture. It gives back from her shy but nice and charm service. ( The quality of the ISO 3200 is amazing!)
Congrats,

Wow henk.
What a beautiful woman. I think the tilted photo works well here. I like the fact that her eyes are above the camera angle. Also the colors of the photo are quite bright and varied, a certain departure...well done.

Chris

Une longue critique serait inutile pour une belle compo de ce type, alors je me tairais cette fois ci devant ce travail personnel de choix d'environnement et de mise en scène; Parfait

A wonderful candid portrait, Henk. She is beautiful, and so is the colorful background of the saris. I like the tilt and the low angle, which are probably a result of candid job, but they make this shot so special. Beautiful.
