If you buy a newspaper, often others are reading along here in Tamil Nadu and nobody bothers about that, so don't you worry, maybe why he didn't noticed my camera. A way to read the latest news, not buying one ...
With some thick glasses this man was fully concentrated, exploring the daily news .....
On the side of the newspaper there was indeed another photo and story about Jaylallitta, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu that time, you could recognize that easily by her typical chin. Now she is shifted aside, she lost the elections.
How I noticed the man at first ...

Again this remarkable quality where you could even read word for word the newspaper yourself. This is exposed to perfection and is so well framed.

nice story henk,
i assume you did not understand much from the text but you managed to be an active participant in the reading process :-))
excellent finding and pov,

mooi portret van deze man die dankzij zijn glazen een erudiete uitstraling krijgt (en natuurlijk door de frons van concentratie).

Nice story behind the photo.
Great sharp, clear shot.
Perfect ID of Jayalalitha spoken.

Beautiful shot! Your angle of view is excellent allowing us to see what he's reading. excellent tech quality. This seems a great place for candid pictures :) Excellent notes.

I love your POV here, man, and the translucence of those thick lenses. This is a very rich shot to me, Henk, it plunges us right into this man's world, we share it with him, thanks to you.
Really well see,
Another reason I like this shot is it inspires me...it's got me thinking and I want to use this approach sometime.

Excellent original daly life shot. Superb tech in tricky looking conditions, great job all round.
dolin (15703) 2006-08-07 6:23
Très bon cet angle et ce pdv, ca donne un puissant effet.
Très intime, très proche, très fort et les teintes me plaisent vraiment bien.
J'aime bien le petit côté doré dans le fond.
L'effet des lunettes est sympa aussi.

Heel mooie scherpe foto Henk,
prachtige foto, met een hele mooie dof, zeer goed werk. Ja, wat kan ik nog meer vertellen, gewoon goed dus.

Great story telling here with the two-fold shots, its hard to decide which I like the most...just enjoy the two. Such precise POV allowing us not only to read his paper but to see those translucent glasses that you mention. Pefect tech, of course:)
chanjits (4454) 2006-08-07 8:01
nice photo taken at proper angle man is wearing typical glasses which people wear after cataract operation but now days these glasses are vanishing from the scene as intraocular lenses taking there place but you can still spot few old aged persons with them they make good subject for clicking but your catch is marvelous one can read even newspaper clicked by you if knows Tamil. Thanks dear for sharing.
jrj (34843) 2006-08-07 8:58
For sure a creative shot and very original not only to have the reader with the very strong glasses here but as well the chin of a politican... I wonder about the text - you reading that too?
roamermark (1592) 2006-08-07 9:15
Just super....and those are some awesome specs your man is sporting. The angle is fantastic here...a really well thought out image.

Hi Henk, funny shot to emphasize the man's glases when he reads the news. He seems to be concentrated. I like the perspective you've chosen. Nice composition. Good job, I like this image.
erdna (5711) 2006-08-07 11:17
A very clear and sharp picture. The paper is so readable even at an angle and his eyeglasses are like magnifying glass. A very nicely composed photo.
RADEEH (2802) 2006-08-07 12:23
Your observations about the Tamil community is amazing. And the shot too explains it. I am amused by your attachment to tamilnadu.
Great work. TFS
designsoul (21492) 2006-08-07 15:29
Indeed a very apt title, Henk, that really makes this composition, together with your superb angle and technical prowess, so powerful. What I also like is that we can (I mean we could, if we did) read the paper with him but we can also see him in focus. Very well done. And the other shot, that one as well... sensitive work, and a good find for the woman with her chin!
PS Sorry I have been away but have had to look at pressing issues
pilpel-adom (3018) 2006-08-07 18:00
Well, I guess he is also deaf, Henk! It feels as you were almost bending over his head!
Very good POV and use of aperture to focus the eyes on the thick glass (the bottom of a vodka shot glass I would say!)
Well taken and seen!
PS - it seems your 24-70 can go below the max f/2.8...
An intrigue aspect of physics...
sayan (2617) 2006-08-08 4:09
Your POV is simply great here Henk. "Typical chin"-ha ha.. the word rightly used for her!
thaprem (2558) 2006-08-08 5:53
Your POV here is just too close!!
The details, the connection...It is like baring all that he is reading & thinking.
As you have mentioned, he is indeed a avid smokes...That & tea substituting the meal for millions of working mass is what makes & breaks them.
Your shot has carried the feeling clearly.
branley (3681) 2006-08-08 6:59
lovely shot of everyday life and taken from an unusual POV. The image is so sharp that I can read every word, well I could if I spoke the language!
sathiyan (206) 2006-08-08 8:22
Love the POV. perfect light in the frame
jmdaoudal (82) 2006-08-12 3:30
Je commente à reculons, mais après avoir vu le Mamies au regard lazer, j'ai eu envie de voir celle ci.
Le POV est excelent de même que le cadrage, l'image est très bonne et retranscrit très bien la situation
