Photographer’s Note

A typical spiti village Kyato lies halfway between Kaza and the Kunzum La.

Always a refreshing site in an otherwise barren desertscape.
The roofs are made with willow stems and the walls of mud. No rains of any consequence has seen the village survive for over a 1000 years without much repair.

They have electricity now and satellite Tv but still retains its essential culture and way of life!

This is beautiful composition Vijay; the cloud-shadowed mountain slope looming above them makes it seem so vulnerable, and yet the village has existed for 1,000 years ... quite amazing.

The pattern created by the shadows of the clouds on the hillside is really good here. It adds a lot of atmoshere into the shot. Strong colours, the green in the foreground looks a little over saturated to me, but a fine image otherwise.

What attracted me here is the play of light and shadow on the mountains. Lovely green colours of the field too. and not to mention those typical houses of spiti! Great landscape overall.
