Shot in the streets of South Kolkata, Bhowanipur to be precise.
The world cup is over, a dissapointment for the die-hard Brasil fans who rocked the city until the defeat in the Quarter Final. The walls still remain painted with the images of their favorite heroes. It is the end of a season of emotion, joy, dissapointment and again a time to welcome a new jubiliant team.
A hand-pulled-rickshaw puller waits under a tree shade for a customer, with his bell in his right hand. It is the end of days for them also. The hand-pulled rickshaws will be soon illegal in Kolkata. These poor people have to find an alternative way of living very soon.

I like this snatch of daily life and an interesting note. The blur of the guy on his Vespa works well for me.
I like the contrast of the bright and jolly colours on the wall with the drab surroundings.

very good one Arnab, your note is also interesting.. i wish i saw the hand-pulled rickshaw here more though..but still, your composition is very wise..rickshaw man is placed perfectly here.

Bold, daring POV, Arnab - it really speaks to me, starting with the sahdwoy man on the right, extending to the wooshing motorbike and then the Brazilian foorball poster on the far wall (seems like Barzil are the world's team, eh?)
Anyway, first rate shot.

Well seen this man sitting on his ritshaw as border in front to this streetview on actualities publicity board and moving blurred motorbike, goed speed maintained, colors reholded as there was no sun, up to reality, maybe a slight lightening up of frontplan to have less contrast more balanced lightmanagment.

Very nicely composed, Arnab. Excellent eye for the opportunity. I am going to nitpick, however! Let's say the lens were a bit lower and pointing slghtly up so the man's head would have covered the rickshaw that is now sticking out of his head. Then perhaps the lens should also turn a wee bit to the left to catch the scooter a moment early so it didn't overlap the man's hand...well..as I said, I am in a mood to nitpick now before I go back to writing this paper ;-)

Perfect timing. The background ,the scooter river aned the rikshaw puller all mingles to make a good story of life.
Well done arnab.

A lovely composition Arnab da and amazed to see not much smileys here. I personally think that this is one of the strong compositions that I had seen recently in your gallery. Lovely framing with the man on the front and the blurred scooter in the back. A very good angle too. Great shot.

Nice compo, arnab, so many things to look at here.
And always theese painted publicities; we have lost them since 30 years in my country.

Great capture Arnab. You should change the title to "Na, ebaro Brazil noi".

a brillant framing but I personally found the colour a little bit washed ;o) but I like the compo and may be it matches well with the urbanity.

Too good Arnab. You have captured a very common mood of Kolkata which we generaly never notice or overlook.I liked most the color & texture of the rickswa puller's shirt.Too good. Also I agree with Animesh's POV about changing the angle a bit.Khub bhalo laglo chhobita.

You composed a story by composing this wonderful shot, lot many things are told by this documentary shot. True journalistic approach. The blur of the scotter highlights the sharp details of the painting of football players, the bell in the man's hand is very intersting.Hope government will find some alternative jobs to them. Great work Congrats and TFS

This is probably the most quiet scene I have seen from Kolkata......I guess there use to be people everywhere?? I think you have captured the scene very well. The man on the motorbike going home....and the rickshaw puller waiting. Why will the hand-pulled-rickshaws soon be illegal and is it only in Kolkata?
Burberry1 (6041) 2006-08-13 4:55
It,s a wonderful daily life scene, very true and catching the attention!
