The hindu wedding ceremonies in different parts of India differ in the details, but the core is formed by a set of rituals going back several thousand years ...

No sooner is the date finalised than the entire process of making bookings and fixing appointments has to start.

First of all, decide on the venue and book the hall.
Contact the priest to draw the muhurat.( an auspicious time of the year )
Buy the invitation cards / meet the printers.(where the exact time is choosen by the astrologue ex : 12h47)

Chalk out the menu, contact the caterers

See to the marriage registration formalities.

Jewellers to be met for the mangalsutra (The groom ties it around the neck of the bride on the day of their marriage signifying their union), rings, other gold ornaments.

Transport to be arranged for the guests

Do your trousseau shopping.

Buy the silverware.

Gifts for the groom, in-laws and others to be packed.

Carpenters, painters, cleaners, domestic help to be contacted.

Decide on whether you're going to have recorded music or rely on the traditional vazantri.(Almost all the temples keep musicians called in local parlance chouguddo or vazantri. These musicians also take part in religious ceremonies and dances in honour of the deity.)

Florist to be contacted for the garlands, roses to be distributed to the guests, loose flowers, flower decoration at venue.

Accommodation to be arranged for the guests.

Ladoos, kapann, pedas, mithais to be ordered (sweets)

Articles to be distributed at the tel (oil ceremony) and mementos to be given to relatives and guests after the wedding.

Everything required for the pooja as suggested by the priest: coloured rice (akshata), coconuts, etc.

Fireworks.

The bridal dress, baashing, pheto, footwear.

'Maharaja' chairs for the bridal couple and chairs for the guests.

Photographer / Videographer to be booked for the day.

Bridal giveaways like cupboard, dressing /dining table, beds, embroidered pillow covers & linen to be delivered to the groom's place a day prior to the wedding.

Here you can see the future groom who just arrived and who has to accomplish few rituals
before the ceremony starts..
The weather was not so favourable....
Hope you like it.

Salut Marilyn!
Bien vu

marilyn,
good color and detail in this shot. your note helps explain the shot and you give the details very well here.

Excellent information in your note and wonderful capture of the groom in his wedding regalia. The serious expression tels its own story.

Hi Marilyn, Thanks for the detailed to do list for the wedding. No wonder that the groom does not look so happy as he may still worry some of the un-finished to do items. A well taken picture with the beautiful color contrasts. Good sharpness and nice depth.

Marilyn I have a punjabi East Indian friend who told me that his wedding cost him over 35,000 dollars. I cannot believe it. But in these cultures the wedding is an integral part of their culture. I like the long list of details you shared here. Interesting how these customs differ around the world. Thanks for sharing...good stuff!

Hi Marilyn
I like the detail of the groom’s attire
I think you could increase the contrast a bit to highlight the details. It is just a small suggestion
very nice note

I like the picture. I see customs all over the world differ from one another. The dress and ornaments the man wears are beautiful. Definitely diffrent from what I wore during my wedding ceremony. Nice work showing this cultural moment in the life of a man. Nice work Marilyn :-)
