Photographer’s Note

view from the fortress of Shey, built at the end of Xe century and restored at the beginning of XVIe century. Beside the ruins a large temple dedicated to the Shakyamuni Buddha is, represented by an immense gilded copper statue. The murals are also remarkable there.
The flags of prayer are registered with symbols, invocations, prayers, and incantations favourable. The Buddhists during centuries planted these flags apart from their houses and places of the spiritual practice so that the wind carries the beneficial vibrations through the countryside. One says that flags of prayer bring happiness, of long life and prosperity to the grower of flag and those in the vicinity.

Les drapeaux de prière sont inscrits avec des symboles, des invocations, des prières, et des incantations propices. Les bouddhistes pendant des siècles ont planté ces drapeaux en dehors de leurs maisons et endroits de la pratique spirituelle pour que le vent porte les vibrations bienfaisantes à travers la campagne. On dit que des drapeaux de prière apportent le bonheur, de longue vie et la prospérité au planteur de drapeau et ceux à proximité.

Preciosa fotografía, tiene una composición realmente original y tambien una buena nitidez, el contraste de las banderas destacan sobre el el paisaje del fondo, buen trabajo.

Beautiful colours all over the shot, although somehow the sky looks a little flat. Prayer flags always make for a great shot.

Hi Didier,
The snow capped mountains, the green valley of Indus below, and the prayer flags make for a wondeful composition. However those not accustomed to Buddhist culture, this is the meaning behind the prayer flags :
Prayer flags are inscribed with auspicious symbols, invocations, prayers, and mantras. Buddhists for centuries have planted these flags outside their homes and places of spiritual practice for the wind to carry the beneficent vibrations across the countryside. Prayer flags are said to bring happiness, long life and prosperity to the flag planter and those in the vicinity.

Très belle photo Didier, le fait de positionner les drapeux si près de nous rend la photo très originale, la netteté nous permet de vour tous les détails, on pçourrait presque tout lire. Le paysage de second plan ets boien rendu aussi, les couleurs et la lumière bien capturés. Bravo

Salut Didier, yessss tu en as remis une de tes fameux drapeaux, je ne comprends pas que tu ne l'ai pas mise avant car elle est monstrueuse celle la !! Ces bandes de drapeaux dessinent si bien le cadre de cette vue prodigieuse sur les hauts somments et cette verte vallée, du grand art didier !

Very nice scenery! Laddakh is one of the most beautifull places on earth!
Only the colors in your picture (also in others I've seen from you) are unnatural. I think you put too much contrast via Photoshop into this picture. The contrast in the thin air of Laddakh is allready very high!

Despite this your pictures are very nice.

I do like the way you have framed this between the prayer flags, Didier. The DOF and sharpness is superb, allowing us to see the detail of the prayer flags as well as the landscape in the background. I have a feeling though that your image is tilted a little to the right (looking at the trees in the middle). I don't agree with Daniel Weber about the colours being unnatural. I think your saturation is just right. If the saturation was less, the picture would look washed out. Cheers . . . David

Ton image me rappelle de bons souvenirs de mon voyage au Ladakh qui remonte à fort longtemps (1987)! J'aime la manière dont tu as capturé la plaine verdoyante, les montagnes arides et les sommets enneigés en les encadrant de ces beaux derapeaux à prières colorés.

Je découvre ta gallerie et je tombe sur cette photo très colorée.
Ce qui marche pour moi ici c'est les deux grandes lignes de drapeaux avec des couleurs vivies et contrastées..
Tu encadres ensuite naturellement le paysage et ces monts enneigés..
C'est une compo parfaitement maîtrisée.

j'aime bien celle ci, le melange entre les drapeaux colores et ce fantastique paysge ca fonctionne bien, je regrette juste que le cadrage soit un peu trop serré, mais c'est juste un detail et ce n'est pas sur que de plus loin cela soit mieux !

Une magnifique photo Didier.
Les couleurs sont impressionnantes et la montagne en deuxieme plan magestueuse. Ca me fait penser un peu au film 7 ans au Tibet.
Quand au caracter social et culturel de la photo il est présent avec les drapeaux de prière. Bravo.
