This photograph was taken from the old Bellevue hotel in Darjeeling, the queen of the Hills! In our last tour we stayed in the old Bellevue Hotel, near the famous Darjeeling Mall. The hotel, established in 1897 is one of the oldest in Darjeeling. There are other extensions of this hotel with the same name, but we stayed in the oldest one. The rooms were well decorated with wooden floor, fireplace, antichamber with all modern day facilities. I enjoyed the oldness in the construction and pattern of that hotel very much. It seems like that we have gone to the old days!
The day this photo was taken was very cloudy. We were planning to go out for taking some snaps and were very much frustrated seeing the dark clouds in the sky. Finally sun beams came out through the cloud and we were happy enough to see that!

amazing shot. these moments are special and short lived, and one feels lucky to keep a document... as you are!
like the way you got it, perfect proportions for the land and the sky.
good job!

Hi Sayan,
Excellent capture of the sunrays filtering in through dark clouds. Very good perspective. The old Bellevue is as good as any heritage hotel. Very distinct in character from the fast mushrooming hotels in Darjeeling. Wonderful place to stay.
Thanks for sharing

I always think there is something Biblical about shots like these with the sun's rays coming through the clouds. Very good capture from your viewpoint with the city spread out before you.
Kath

U have captured the mystry of the nature dramatically. the falling rays give lot of life to the photograph.
The inclusion of the houses is a wise idea.

Hi Sayan...
Wow... Wonderful ambience... The point of view is perfect... Also perfect light, details and silhouettes of the mountains and trees... The sky is incredible... Of course great shot...
TFS...
Stay well..
Salim.

Beautiful composition and most important excellent atmpsphere Sayan! It's incredible how you managed to keep the rays (the strongest part of the picture) not "burned" and still have very nice exposure on the lower part (did you do any PP?). There is strange line from the one side of the picture to the other (upon the clouds) and some noise, but overall a great one! Well done!
Hercules

great work, I would love to take something like this one day, I like the suns beams, well done

Hi Sayan,
Like the rest of them, I am fascinated with this natural phenomenon when the sunrays pierce the clouds and fall on the earth, creating a an awe-inspiring spectacle.
The noise and the low intensity colours induced me to try a workshop on the image, just for my own pleasure. It may not have done any good to the original image, which is excellent as it is but for the noise.
I beg to be forgiven for the intrusion.
Regards.
Ram

Hi Sayan
Sure sun rays throgh clouds have made a excellent background for queen of hills.TFS
ramesh

Hi Sayan,
Great shot! You captured the sunrays and the atmosphere so well! Composition is very good, too. Brings back memories of my 5 days stay at Darjeeling in this kind of weather everyday.
Thanks for sharing.

Hi Sayan...
It is an interesting effect you capture here!
The haze and/or humidity in the air makes the ray of light visible...
You tell an interesting story in your notes, it is like being transferred back a hundred years...
Greetings,
Pablo -

Those rays of sunshine pulls you really in to this shot to see this village down to the misty mountains in the back. Sure a great shot that with some quality adjustments like undoing grains and upgrading colors in the sky would benefit the view to make it stand out even more. Most important you have an excellent shot going here Sayan.
greetings from Henk

Hi Sayan
Sun rays like this is always very effectful to see - as here in the good catch also presenting the village in the foreground. Very effective compo - interesting.

Hello Sayan,

This is quite incredible. One of the best Darjeeling picture I have seen. You did capture the picture really well and framing too with the small houses in the bottom.

Arindam

sayan,
the gate to the heaven opened and the golden rays poured out on the living. great composition. though there is a bit of noise, but here technicality really does not matter to me. what matters is your pov and imagination.
well done.

Sayan,
A striking image!..Lights surpisingly clear on both the sky as well as the city!!!
neatly done.
Cheers,
Prem.

Hello Sayan
This is one of the best photos of Darjeeling I've seen & these rays of the sun penetrating the clouds provides a special moment. Fantastic...but a couple of things about your image, jodi kicchu na mone koro...There are some grains (which is OK with me overall except on the beautiful sunrays) & I can see a faint brown horizontal line over the clouds..wonder what's that. Post processing is something I'm not to good at either, but I think Henk's WS does well except I think there's too much saturation there.
But the credit of the picture is all yours..well done Sayan
Regards
Angshuman

Hi Sayan,

Your title says it all. What does it for me in this shot is the magnificent streaming light from the sky. I really liked both workshops which increase the impact of the rays. I dont mind the grain, I think it gives the shot some character and is interesting.

Hello Sayan,
this place looks so sad, so gray...as you said, a rays of hope were hitting these houses and may be the greenery will come back around here.
Beuatiful picture.
Luan

Namaste Sayan

I loved Darj, even though it was similar to Nepal in many ways {but without the riots, though!} I like the radiating sunbeams here. Good job!

Amazing light & POV here! Regards, Doug

Hello Sayan,

You have a superb sunburst effect in this picture. The composition and exposure are first rate, and accompanied by a succinct but informative note.

Warm regards,

Bulent

Hello sayan,

i was just browsing your gallery and found this beauti..It reminds me of a photograph I took from ganestok in Gangtok and the ambience was absolutely the same..I could see the gangtok TV tower and the whole of gangtok..with rays of sunlight coming through numerous slits in between the clouds..!!

Great shot ..I can understand those lines and the grain as I deal with them everyday while posting my scanned pics...!! beautiful clouds I must say..with gorgeous colours..

On pondering more I saw 4 WSs given to this photograph and that initiated my creative bug to get something out of this beautiful shot of yours...check it out and do let me know how u like it..!!!!

Regards,

Indro

Hi Sayan, a mystic atmosphere in this image..
the rays of light are really good and create fantastic tones and colours..
you have captured the moment perfectly!
ciao!
Valeria

Sayan. this is a very nice picture showing great ray. You captured the moment of it so well. Sothea

Despite the bad weather, you were able to get a wonderful picture with those rays! And interesting the title after reading your story. But there's a horizontal line in the clouds, what's that? Beautiful composition!
