Photographer's Note

On the ghats of the sacred tank of Badami.
Women use to come here for the laundry.
You can hear everywhere this sound all along the day; nice moments.
And, as usual, the way they do this hard task is incredibly beautiful!

Bonjour Joel, j'aime enormement cette image, elle marche a tous les niveaux. La compo est magistrale tout d'abord commencant par la femme a droite et decsendant vers la gauche. Les couleurs sont eclatantes comme on les viot rarement, le pique est examplaire, et en plus il y a, disons-le mon ami, un air assez lourd de sensualite qui s'en degage. Comme je le disais a tus les niveaux tu as reussi et c'est fort beau.

Joel,
I think you have captured this subject and activity extremely well. It's not easy..I have tried with little success. The large range of motion in the foreground and the background that shws the scope of the activity are excellent.

A photo that demands a tilt. Great dynamic feel from the foreground thanks to how you captured the moment. The colors are amazing, this shot brearhes colors and I can see why its so hard to shoot in b/w there. Only Sohrab does that. But i wonder if I could bring myself not to shoot these amazing colors. Back to the tilt, it is so natural I almost didnt even notice it.

A well balanced shot with the differant levels to the well placed forground portrait of this lady, colors and contrasts and sharpness are impecable, speed perfect to maintain slightly the movement blur, compo in function brings us totally in the scene with a pleasant content to enjoy.

Hi Joel,
As soon as I saw your photo, I recognised the place. It is right opposite the Badami caves along the path leading upto the temples. Was there recently, captured almost an identical image but from a different angle.
Yours is an excellent image. The ghats are as usual colourful but you have been succesful in being inconspicuous.

Great daily life shot. I love the line of ladies all doing laundry. Great colours and the steps at the back of the frame really make this for me.

tu sais quoi, j'aurais bien vu un cadrage au ras de la main, posee a meme ton cadre ! a part ce petit detail esthetique, ton image est superbe, je n'ai que rarement assite des scenes comme celle ci. J'aime bien

Nice one Joel. The composition with the girl on the right is good with the sweep of the ghats behind her. Your timing to capture her balanced as she steps up is great. And although the lighting and shadows look tough you still got a good exposure and result.

Great close up and inclusion of the rim of people doing their own business along the water's edge. Can just about hear the loud THWAK sound as the wet clothes come crashing down on the concrete.

Celle-ci est incroyablement composée au millimètre, les femmes viennet se loger jusque sous les aisselles de la première lavandière... c'est du 1/100 ème de seconde près!
Même en thumbnail, qui pourtant ne "rend pas" pour les photos complexes, elle fait de l'effet cette photo : c'est dire la précision!

I wonder how you managed with such a small focal length without she objecting to her filming?.
A Perfect compo, as usual with teh colour & perfect lighting ...
