Photographer’s Note
This is the beautiful Yumthang Valley in north Sikkim. This place is about 140km north of Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim. Lachung provides the base for exploration of Yumthang, the valley of flowers. The time we went there, is not the time when flowers are at their full bloom. But we found a lot of Rhododendron on the way. Situated at an altitude of 11800 ft (3564m) with a close proximity of Tibet, Yumthang is a unique place. The best season for visiting the valley starts in late February and continues up to mid June, when thousands of colourful flowers are in full bloom. However, to enjoy a clear sky and brilliant view of snow-capped mountains, the September-December season would be ideal. There is no accommodation available at the valley. Visitors may stay at Lachung from where the valley is about an hours drive. Accommodation in Lachung is basic and can not be compared to other destinations in Sikkim. The region has been opened to tourists during the recent years although trekking is still not allowed. Tourism infrastructure in the area is still very basic but fast improving.
This is the dried river bed Lachung-chu. At the time we visited Yumthang, there was not a very huge amount of water in the river lachung-chu. A large river bed filled with pebbles was there. It was very cold and the wind was so cold that we were not able to stay for there for long!

What time of the day did you take this picture, Sayan? Looks like it is close to mid day; the contrasts are so sharp.
The valley looks interesting but somewhat dry as you mentioned.
There is a good depth of view to the image. An early morning shot is always better in the mountains.

Great composition Sayan! The "rule of thirds" at its best. The eye is guided to the narrow passage. Great sky too! Thanks for the notes too. You should be a journalist
PS> Thanks for the honor...

Hello Sayan,
Your perspective with a low POV on the dry river bed works very well here!
There are good lines in your composition, all taking my eyes to the winding valley that is dwindling in a distance... Nice!
Impressive mountains and good details...

Bonjour Sayan,
très beau paysage des Indes où les hauts sommets ne manquent pas.
Un paysage qui a l'air à la fois rude, mais garni de de végétation.
Dommage pour cette bande, due sans doute au scanning.
Best regards.
Daniel.

Dear Sayan
Amazing landscape with fantastic depth. What attracts me is your low POV which leads my eyes through the bouldery road to the mountains. The V shape formed by the two slopes on either side provides a window to the snow capped mountains. Quite spectacular Sayan
