Photographer’s Note

Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. Whatever for of transport you take to get to this remote city, it’s always good to see some sort of civilization again after traveling for hours through the Thar Desert. Jaisamler is well known for its Golden Fort, and according to the different books, the only living fort today in the world. There are still 20 families living in the fort.
The color comes from the yellow sandstone that has been used to construct the fort, and it originally had 99 watchtowers, now only 96 are still standing.
This particular photo was taken from one of the many rooftop restaurants available in the fort, during sunrise. The little temple can be found as decorative ornaments on the various rooftops. The shape though is used in all big and small old building.
