Hi Sohrab. I think the scan isn't so good but the photo still looks great. the composition is wonderful, with few elements, simple. But you put us so close to the man... bathing with him. I like the water falling off the man. The 2 scenes, the man in the disturbed water and the man fishing in the calm, unmolested water... 2 different moods. the slight vignetting is a nice little touch.
arindam_thokder (3987) 2005-12-28 10:54
I was waiting for your post. May be that is why I am first here. I like the motion in this picture, the early morning mist which almost vanishes the horizontal line and the vignetting effect through the borders. The contrast though, may be because of the light was not enough in the early morning or the scanning was not good enough.
bliard (1116) 2005-12-28 11:21
Nice moment... Really nice composition.. like the mistery behind this picture...
nice use of black and white also
bantonbuju (51815) 2005-12-28 11:36
hi sohrab, this is a tremendus "wallhanger", love it to the bits; great composition, and dof control;
grain is a bonus here;
shangri-la (353) 2005-12-28 11:51
your scan is bad but we can imagine the photo... and I see a great moment of puja... a wonderful composition with good black&white atmosphere!
eleparc (24063) 2005-12-28 11:56
i love that shot sohrab! the contrast between the foreground full of action, and the still background with the fisherman going on with his daily life is just amazingly good... An excellent shot, worthwhile any grand photographer! congratulations for this one my friend!
Greetings for you and your family for this ending year and upcoming 2006
designsoul (21492) 2005-12-28 12:02
An excellent, strong work, Sohrab. I don't feel bothered at all by the scan quality; in fact, it enhances my visual pleasure, with the slight grain and vignetting. Fantastic shot with the man dipping in the holy water, which is so tactile I feel already refreshed just by looking at it.
rbcy1974 (20758) 2005-12-28 12:32
Excellent black and white
Great moment captured great action, trully magzine material
rahul__rahul__ (2250) 2005-12-28 12:48
Hi Sohrab, I like the movement of the water and the boat in the back...and I think that the scanning adds more to the picture, as it does to other pictures of yours too...
Homerhomer (4080) 2005-12-28 13:20
God gracious, is this one of the images of your that you hate so much Sohrab?
I think it's fantastic, I am speechless (or should I say typeless). There is so much spirituality in this image, his profile doesn't have much detail but I sense the tention and the mood of the ceremony.
The debth is great, composition with oof boat, movement of the drops of water. I real joy for my eyes.
IMO this is among your best.
bnallama (3763) 2005-12-28 14:01
Hi Sohrab, so you got some time to shoot while busy eating at Kasi :-) I agree with Peter here that image is full of spirituality. Everything on the frame is a real pleasure and joy for the eye... TFS and wish you a Happy New Year...
nygus (8178) 2005-12-28 15:08
excellent work, though i would like to see more on the bottom , a full wave circle around
him if u know what i mean
johnhopkins (866) 2005-12-28 15:40
Hi Sohrab. A very nice photo. The technical trouble from the scan does not really impede what is a great moment and a terrific composition.
coco (30439) 2005-12-28 16:39
Powerful picture but, probably, not between your best.
Anyway, I think that the problems of the picture (about sharpness) may be caused by the scanned.
bebel (7588) 2005-12-28 17:17
pridel (233) 2005-12-28 17:29
it is a really fantastic photograph. you are an excellent photographer.
I like very much your photograph for the mysterious environment of the man and the contrast beetween the boat of back ground as if there were two worlds. It is very good work
I wish you a beautiful year 2oo6
vapours (8264) 2005-12-28 20:19
Wow quite a superb shot. Just love the amount of splashing water in this shot and just the composition in general.
rowanb (864) 2005-12-28 20:56
wonderful moment the way the water is flowing off him and with the boat in the background. great shot.
rosiegirl (1596) 2005-12-29 0:39
I love how you've paused that water- like its still clinging to him, he's still braking through the surface. Great contrast. Good work.
krishindu (469) 2005-12-29 3:38
Even though the contrast and brightness was not great, may be because of the early morning and scanning, this picture is great. An excellent close shot of the man, vanishing horizontal river border, not too many subjects visible and falling water makes the effect complete. great,
ALSOM (6616) 2005-12-29 4:01
This is a fantastic decisive moment.
The feeling is just great from this man in pray, the connection with the gange water is perfectly captured. No more motion, just feel the emotions.
Thanks, I like it a lot, Alain -
Curioso (9271) 2005-12-29 4:53
Very intense and beautiful shot Sohrab. There is a fantastic mood and we feel we are part of a sensitive story when we look at your picture. I just love it.
dolin (7369) 2005-12-29 5:39
Olala what a moment ! That's fabulous.
I like this b/w with this dark part on the man and this excellente timing with all this water.
The framing is perfect too with this little boat on the left.
An impressive POV too.
bullabulla (3488) 2005-12-29 6:12
I'm not sure about the quality of the picture
but I like it the blured the mouvement the composition
with the boat on the background!!
Svillegas (1169) 2005-12-29 6:17
Great image, it’s quite impacting. Good choose for B&W
Happy New Year
maciekda (19895) 2005-12-29 8:46
fantastic photo Sohrab, I wish i took one photo as good as this one during my this trip to India, beautiful work, makes me jealous
AmiBe (6042) 2005-12-29 10:18
incredible, for sure a decisive moment shot !
I like the close POV and the boat balances the shot.
JonKilimnik (0) 2005-12-29 11:36
Beautiful shot...you've captured the essence and that's all that matters to make a great photograph. The technical bits aren't important...unless you're a perfectionist ;)
naxius (16685) 2005-12-29 14:05
Incredible image you are posting!
I really like the moment you catched. Exactly at the right moment to capture the right feeling of the man getting out of the water.
I like also the rendering of the light and textures...I have the feeling that it's coming from an old time.
Bravo, you made my day!
Best wishes to you.
Ania_Madina (628) 2005-12-29 15:30
that's amazing! really well catched moment, all best was already written so i just want to whish you another great shots!
hugolef (4909) 2005-12-30 10:42
another good one, i like this close portrait of this bath ... a good frame including a boat in background, so the compo is well balanced ...
Very good work ... goes to my favorites
Best wishes for 2oo6, hugues
alimo3 (6854) 2006-01-02 17:08
Happy new year to you and all your family, my friend !
I read that you are not very happy with your work at this time ,
I understand it with this one .
No ;-) I am joking, this one is certainly one of your best !
Everything here is at the right place, the head in the center ,the boat on the calm water making contrast to the movement of the man, even the Tilt is appropriated.
But IMO your work is not brought out scanned from the contact sheet.
I would like to see more printed images from you.
CliffW (2377) 2006-01-02 19:05
What a great shot. And I think I even like that the scan came out a little rough. It gives a little feeling of timelessness that is much like the city and the ganges itself. But compositionally, it's great. At an even level, it puts us right into the shot, a fellow bather, a brief glimpse from inside the scene.
Luko (14000) 2006-01-03 4:00
this'll be both my first comment and first fav for the year for one of the first photogs in here... I mean everything is perfect here, taking apart the fact that it's a sloppy scan from a contact sheet, : composition, boat as a background, incredible timing, contrast, etc.
I really have nothing to nitpick about : what can I say then? I just wonder what were the conditions when you shot this one, you seem so close that it seems you were dipping yourself in the Ganges.
You really have a great piece of work, Sohrab, I mean it... although you're taking a different, more immediately artistic and personal way than say, MarkGong or Maciek who on their sides get perhaps more publishing ops...(nothing negative in any side of the comparison, I'm only pointing that the two fellows are searching for documentaries while you're catching the atmosphere)... perhaps this is your strength too, you don't seem stressed by any kind of "publishing" pressure over you and let go your own imagination and selctng your own topics.
Furachan (0) 2006-01-03 6:06
Happy New Year, Sohrab! I love this "lousy scan" of yours, ha ha. I mean this is another sublime statement, on the artistic side of the ledger. That bather emerges like a God from the holy river.
You are in a class all by yurself, Sohrab, and it is a thrill to see you posting again.
babul (612) 2006-01-03 13:01
another exellent picture sohrab im looking forward to see your work publish some ware big applause for your work
Darren (6823) 2006-01-04 9:57
This is realy great Sohrab, I wish you were working from a better scan. I think a better scan could have brought out just a few important details in the face. I really like the up close feel here and having the boat in the background makes all the difference to me. The toning of this really works so well; something that only "true" b&w can do IMO. Good one.

Sohrab, first of all, HI! Happy New Year. And let me say that when I opened this I was at once immersed in its mood. It's gorgeous. It looks a bit less refined than some of your others, as if you did something to lessen the detail or grain but maybe it's just the shutter speed. Whatever it is, it's working, giving the whole thing a kind of liquidity. Maaaaan... You rule. I feel actually grateful to be able to see this shot.
aralda (1240) 2006-01-09 2:23
A powerful image, sohrab. Thanks for sharing.
Midnight_sun (1941) 2006-01-10 16:09
hey sohrab, good to see you are still taking such outstanding shots, you've really got the bug! This is so good, get it in a gallery some time. Cheers B.
michel_r (1118) 2006-01-16 16:02
This is a very powerful picture , simply superb nothing to add, only want to spent time looking at it! of course in the favs!
Dr_Nibbles (283) 2006-01-21 5:31
Very cool shot.
B/W is just perfect. And it's just the right moment for the photo, with the water dripping from his body and stuff.
faubry (35447) 2006-02-13 5:25

Excellent composition and timing!!!
The drops of water falling of the man head are amazing.
Thanks for sharing!
devimeuxbe (58557) 2006-04-08 17:30
I just had a look at your galery, and i stop on this incredible and beautifull picture.
I like the man bathing, you captured a perfgect profil and the mpuvement of the water is nice.
yanseiler (20) 2006-04-28 9:52
A very nice composition, this guy seems to come from the bottom of the lake, it's very dynamic...
sid (228) 2006-07-20 6:16
I rather like the frame, personally speaking i would have needed some more sharpness on this, but your b/w pics are far far better than mine, but am trying to get to the levels you have posted in here first. hence, tones could have still be better to an extent, surely you can do that edit in a snap! if you would have wanted. ....But whoa! This is SCANNED!
So i take all my words above back quitely.
b/w pics .. i just adore em all you posted in here.
Great collection from the magical eyes!
Luan (12971) 2006-08-08 17:38
Damn, this one is really good, it the heart of the scene and on the mind of the man !
Burberry1 (6041) 2006-08-15 18:38
Wonderful, very professionally taken photo...very emotional and inspiring!!
rasmis (291) 2006-09-22 16:00
Hi, I like the motion in your photos. Although the scan is not perfect I am still impressed with the sense of motion. Well done
rafid76 (0) 2006-11-07 14:55
im speechless, really phenominal shot. you must have been really close. didnt you camera get wet? this picture is national geography worthy. you made me feel his ascention
schekerli (234) 2007-01-17 14:30
Sooo wonderful! I am really amazed by this.
I think this somehow dirty poor kind of scanning give your photos a unique atmosphere which fits your stories.
p.s.But I slowly begin to think that you almost attend to create this image deliberately...
SebastianSeng (354) 2007-01-30 12:20
you have such an impressive collection of b/w images here that i have difficulty selecting one to comment. This one particularly raised my brows the most. It's the moment that you've captured that captivates me, though i find myself wishing to see slightly more details of the boy's face. All in all, this image goes to my heart and is excellent!!!
partha (14023) 2007-03-10 4:31
Its a so strong shot. Perfectly timed and the boat at the further point gives a very good perspective. B&W is the perfect choice.
