Almost every village in Ladakh has a Gompa, a Buddhist temple which is normally situated at the top of a steep hill or rock, overlooking the village.
This is the Gompa at Wanla, which is a days walk from Lamayuru.

Its just amazing how they can build these things in the first place on top of these rugged mountains! Great shot.

Great photo David,
The landscape is wonderful and i like the contrast between the stones colours and the village and the trees. The light is fantastic. Excellent sharpness.

Such a wonderfull and amazing lanscape could only gives a marvellous picture !!!

Hi David,
Fantastic landscape. This is a good composition with great light and colors. You've really managed to show us the atmosphere of a typical Ladahk gompa here.
Regards, Brigitte

Great view of a great place. The angle makes the mountains infinite. The 2 trees in the right and the houses are giving a piece of life in this desert of rocks.

Well done David.

Moutain like in Argentina.
Nice photo.

Beautiful and impressive landscape with all those barren mountains in the bckground. Very nice light, I like the shadows of the clouds projecting on the slopes of the mountains. The colourful houses are breaking with the almost monochromatic surrounding landscape and thus a nice addition to the overall composition. Well done!

Regards, Christian

That's an amazing photo. I really love the colours!

Hi David,
WOW, i like the simplicity of this picture. Very peaceful.

Great otherworldly feel, I especially like the shadowplay on the rugged peaks, and interesting gompa growing out of the rocks. Being extra picky I would have preffered snow on the peaks.

une image bien remplie mais pas lourde, bravo

It's not often I look at a photo and go wow. I think it makes the buildings look spectacularly perched up high, while at the same time dwarfed by the peaks. Superb

I like this photo. While our eyes should be drawn to the orange building in the center, they are not. In my case, I noticed first the shadows in the mountain and then the two houses at right - due to their symetry and then the trees. Still amasing how they build these structures on the edges.

A beautiful shot of Gompa in rugged terrain. You mention Lamayuru. I recall Lamayuru can be seen from highway to Kargil.Did you take any photos of Lamauru

David, this is fabulous mountain scenery. I like the detail in the rocks and the way the clouds cast irregular shadows over the mountain. The gompa provides the essential spot of colour in the foreground.

Hi David,
This is Ladakh! In watching your photos I think I have to come back. Your pic it's just perfect!
A smile
Luca
