Agricultural Fields at 3900 meters Photo

Photographer’s Note

The fields of the Village Kee, Spiti, India at an altitude of more than 3900 meters.
I have been asked many times during my short life on TE about "What and from where do the people in the remote areas of Tibetan Plateau eat?"
I guess this photo will answer that question. They do have some agricultural fields in the summers that they cultivate. Source of irrigation is usuallty the canals those are made from the stream of spring waters directed towards the fields. Some canals in these areas are hundred of years old. And the common crops that they grow are Peas, Potatoes and barley for grains.
Please correct me if I am wrong. as I am writing all this from what I know and I might be wrong.

About this photo
I took this photo from the same look out that I had taken the previous photo from (approx 600 meters higher than the village). The fields in the photo belong to the village Kee. The river in the background is Spiti/Sutlej.

Fields seem as if they are right next to the river; but there is an escarpment beyond the fields. One can look at the other side of the river to get an idea about what I am talking about. To get an idea about the size of the fields one can look at the houses along the fields in the bottom left corner of the photo. CHEERS

At first before reading your note I thought these were pieces of tile or glass embedded on clay. This is a cool point of view, the colors of the fields are certainly stunning.
It may improve this pretty photo if you play with the contrast option, but as is it is quite gorgeous.

I'm one of those who already asked the question :), now i'm glad to see this, it's hard to "see" at first fast aproach... to be honest i've spent some seconds before realized the POV and the details.

what a different landscape, Sarju! I was asking myself what it is when I saw the thumbnail.. it loosk really different.. very beautiful mix of the colors.. blue, borwn, green squares.. it seems a modern painting.. hehe
the altiture is also impressive. wasn't it hard to breath? anyways, good composition, friend!

This is very interesting to look at. It looks so different than anything I have ever seen before. Amazing how its very desolate on the outside where there is no water available.

you could have removed an inch from bottom and covered that much on the top... that wud have brought the river into the centre...

This is just an amazing landscape, Sarju. The scale of it is mind-boggling. You have certainly been to some out-of-the-way places in India. I would have liked to have seen a little more sharpness in this if that didn't introduce too much noise. Cheers . . . David

Uhau Sarju! This is a really beautiful one from the same gorgeous place. I love shots from above and the ones from agricultural fields, allways can give so graphic nice pictures.
Again, the composition is perfect, along with your note to show us well the scale of those fields. Really impressive, comparing with the size of the houses! The colours and the landscape with that beautiful snowed river are amazing. Amol ws really improved the shot. It's wonderful!

Dear Sarju,
this was one of the great inspirational shots that motivated to have an extra look of some of my Iranian shots that I hadn't really cared much about before (my "After the rain" shots on TE) and I realised that I could do something with them. So it's time that I give your shot the attention of a critique. The view from above with vast space rolled out before you before it abruptly ends before the sky, it is not just the landscape and all its interesting features, it's a technique, that can create artistic images if carefully handled and you have definetly succeeded in doing so here. This is impressionist art in a photo. I can see a van Gogh painting those patchy fields with the utmost passion, and then creating the silvery river in an explosion of joy, and finally, of course, cutting off his ear realizing that noone cared about his greatness.

WOAH! The patterns are simply amazing! What an excellent POV! It seems more like an almost abstract painting than a picture!
