So when you're walking along sometimes the picture finds you. This man flagged me over and insisted I take his photo. I'm glad I did now. I know there is some peripheral distortion on the 10-22 S-FS, but this is very close to the real proportions. I am not an expert, but I think this guy knew he had a special countenance, maybe from microcephaly - not sure though.

Yes, I'm glad you did, too, Caleb. Man, what an odd looking man, looks like he's had his share of troubles. Like the framing and composition, and the colors beyond.
Best wishes, Matt

Eyes that look right through you - I like your choice of composition here - his eyes hold your view and the compo gives you somewhere you want to go and look but can't - without bouncing straight back to his look! Fantastic Caleb.

its like a comic! quite humorous.. i like that. i have some distorted shots as well but i am not gonna send them to TE, because ppl get quite funny with those kind of pictures.
but i dont mind at all. its great colours and composition here too.
naxius (16685) 2005-03-26 7:58
Very funny portrait Caleb!
I like his gaze and expression.
Very good indeed.
clodreno (0) 2005-03-26 8:15
Very interesting portrait.. it reminds me of "Popeye the sailorman"..
I am , I must dsay a bit bothered by the lens here..
BTW, how do you like your 10-22?
still he looks like a nbice guy, and I like the way you included the Blue window here..
Have a nice trip Caleb...... I envy you, here it's grey, humid.... nobody around, everybody's at the mall.......yukkkkkkkk

Wow, what a great effect on perspective, due to the wide angle (at least it's what I thought before reading your note). Anyway, a fine portrait to add to your India series. Colours have good contrast, and the image is very sharp.
fiedziu (1764) 2005-03-26 9:22
comedy in very best issue
wow, indescribable, I cant stop laughing :o)))
thanks a lot
gringofil (0) 2005-03-26 9:38
Cool shot and good use of the wide angle lens as well. Usually shots like this hold no drama, but this guy is in a class all by himself. Don't know if I were to improve anything here...looks good to me as is. Well done.
jcandeli (40) 2005-03-26 9:41
Awesome!!! This is perfect. Really, I love it. That guy is so interesting to look at. You did a great job with the composition and lighting. The man's hair and expression are great. I am adding to my favorites now! JP

This is an excellent portrait shot, Caleb. The guy seems like a real character. I like the fact that he actually asked you to take his photo. Beautiful rich colours and well framed with the padlocked window behind.
bip-bip (1837) 2005-03-26 10:38
This is a great shot very sharp and with nice vivid indian colors and good perspective
Distortion on his face is very interesting, makes me thinking of Popeye also !
Paker (2650) 2005-03-26 12:39
Good potrait.... a little bit too much on the right.. but it's a minor detail ;) I like the feeling of 'perspective' here and I get an impression from this shot that the guy is in motion... and this is excellent as it is hard to achieve in 'still' photography.
Albrecht (11281) 2005-03-26 12:54
Marvellous comic picture. Beautiful colors and good DOF. Good compo, greetings Albrecht

Amazing portrait. Is he real or some cartoon caracter ? The composition is just perfect and the details on his face stand out so well. Brilliant Job.
summersun (4978) 2005-03-26 13:39

sohrab (7439) 2005-03-26 14:25
haha greta photograph
no offence meant to the gentleman in the photograph, but at the moment he seems like he's out of an episode "beavis and butthead ,do bikaner " :)
i think you've put your extremely wide angle to very good use.
did you show this to him??
what did he think of it
take care :)
tongapup (0) 2005-03-26 23:52
Oh my goodness, this is great. I just can't stop looking at him... he has a lovely face, sweet, but also quite funny... he really does look a bit like a cartoon character of himself.
Nice with the window and wall in back, too.

Hi Caleb, & Happy Easter!
The close up wide angle view, has given this man the look of a newspaper cartoon caricature (or Popyeye, as Claude notes). Excellent sharpness, color & lighting. Well done!
Praetzer (1662) 2005-03-27 9:40
Great; Funny ;Fantastic expression.
AnimeshRay (9083) 2005-03-27 10:28
Oh this is such a hilarious but power image! I love the expression of the man. I also like the beautiful bokeh you got with this wide angle lens, and the soft color that produces. The framing is perfect.
ash_parikh (2266) 2005-03-28 2:00
nice portrait. he looks like a cartoon character, dont remember which one though. Nice colours and sharp photo.
oochappan (22043) 2005-03-28 3:31
Indeed, this man got 'style', a cartonist can inspire on him. You put him in full spot by perspective in the background and a sober surroundings just around his head. This is a perfect compo and the soft warm pastels very well maintained throughout.
Thanks for this pleasant looking man, Caleb, a perfect interaction so that we can enjoy that too.
maciekda (19895) 2005-03-30 8:33
this is so good, an excellent portrait. the character is great, and the way you composed the photo is very good too, great colors. only compliments here
ishai (4097) 2005-04-05 3:44
Like other members I like this one too
I’m not sure that what I like the most
That the man looks like he jumped out of a cartoon or the whole perspective
Both are good

ballyna (1689) 2005-04-21 18:26
he is a picture himself as u said.but your POV and DOF are also perfect.I can see the colors as they should be especially his shirt. And the locked window makes me to think all the doors would be closed for him in his life:-) All and all I liked the shot very much.
nygus (8178) 2005-05-01 18:02
yeah. great shot ( mainly beacuse of his expression )
aidil98 (94) 2006-05-18 13:18

Una imagen impactante tanto por el primer plano del hombre como por los tonos y contrastes de los colores, una composicion perfecta, enhorabuena.

Quite a striking image Caleb, and one that is quite different to normal portraits. His stare into the viewer really gets out attention.
