Photographer’s Note
... on our journey by the "holy" Ganga.
This is at Kashi Mitra Ghaat. Two boats were unloading clay.
We were shocked to see the river banks, polluted with all sorts of rubbish: plastics and organic waste. Numerous factories and refineries dump in their daily waste into the river.
The Indian Goverenment already has a project called "Ganga Action Plan", but who cares?
Ganga is regarded as the most holy river according to Hindu religion, related to mythology and beliefs. For several thousand of years, it has been the cradle for a vast and dynamic civilization. Are we still aware?
This photo has been used without permission by a Kolkata based advertisement agency for using in a public awareness advertisement for the Pollution control board of West Bengal, and circulated widely in all leading dailies in the state (appeared in the 1st page bottom right) during October 2007

Indeed we see a lot of pollution in India that I always try to avoid with the feeling better to spot nice things to urge people cleaning up their garbage.
Good coloring here on the garbage and nice misty background, Arnab.

I like it. The picture tells a lot - daily life and one of Indias problems the pollution. But anyway I still think Kolkata would be interesting to visit.

I like it. I find the composition very unique. I would crop the top part as there are already a lot of pollution sources that are at he bottom. Good work!

really disturbing, but then we know-this is a fact and we find it all over India..
the composition on the other hand is really strong.. with the men working hard for their living and someone i think is having a wash in the foreground..
