Nubra is a high altitude cold desert in the district of Ladakh of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. The region gets very little rainfall and the vegetation is scant except for the areas close to the glacier fed rivers.
The Bactrian (two humped) camels are used to take tourists for a ride over the sand dunes of Hunder. This area was not open for tourists even few decades ago, but now people with an ILP (inner line permit) can visit the valley. These camels are caught by the locals from the desert trained and used by their owners to serve the tourists.
Here a group a camels are about to depart with their riders for an hour long journey to the dunes.
Thanks for having a look.

Namaste Subho. Beautiful creatures, the camels that is.They don't seem to slobber like the Arabian ones. The riders' expressions convey a sense of excitement as the adventure is about to begin.Nice morning light. regards. Klaudio.

Dobar tekst o mestu i trenutku, lep pogled na kamile sa turistima ...
Dobar trenutak snimka, ostrina i kontrast, lepo pokazano mesto, kamile i turisti, lepe boje.
Lepo popodne i sve najbolje u novoj nedelji koja je pocela, srecno.
A good article on the place and time, a nice view of the camels with tourists ...
Good time recording, sharpness and contrast, nice place shown, camels and tourists, beautiful colors.
Nice afternoon and all the best in the new week that started, good luck.

A very good pic showing the camels. The hilly camels seems to be less height than the plane area camels. Overall a very nice pic. The tourists are really enjoying the camel riding.
Thanks for sharing.

They look ready for departure this band of intrepid tourists, but there doesn't appear to be a ride available for the photographer:-) A well taken photograph very well presented.

this is wonderful! A slightly unreal family album shot, but therein lies the intrigue and beauty of this image. I love it!
Enjoy a good week - B.

This is splendid!
The details of the camels are very well captured, whilst it is interesting to study the individual expressions of the tourists. Together, they make a good separation line between the f/g sand and the b/g misty mountains.
Have a great day,

Ciao e buona giornata

beautiful picture of the camels and their riders with beautiful colours and sharpness. The framing with the row of camels in fine contrast with the sky and the foreground is superb. The travellers really appear comfortably settled atop the fluffy beasts and all set to begin their adventure. Your picture brings back memories of the great Lalmohan Ganguly of 'Sonar Kella' :-)). Thanks for sharing and have a great new week.

These "real" camels are really beautiful animals, seemingly very well suited to this climate with their thick fur. This is a very nice photo with good light and good colours in spite of the dark clouds.

Wow! What a team! This is really an attractive photo, it looks like a cavalry, I like it very much :)))
Kamilutka (8095) 2014-04-07 9:55
these camels look very different from those which I know from north Africa. Their thick fur makes them look quite cute and fluffy. I like how they formed a neat row to pose for the picture. Nicely framed and with good colors.
Thanks for sharing

What a sight!! Its like something from star wars, these amazing animals are very exotic to me. The way they are all lined up like this makes a beautiful image, and the people look so happy on board, and who can blame them!
I cannot quite tell from the angle, are these Bactrian camels? Double wow if they are!
Thanks as always

Very interesting note, introce us to understand the meaning of the splendid image.
I'm surprised this variety camel with two humps and the abundant hair, so I think it is better adapted to low temperatures. They look powerful and very well prepared for walking tourists, very well captured this scene reporting.
Very nice colorful tones very effective.
Good management of light and good sharpness.
Splendid image. My compliments.
Have a nice day.
All the best.

here is a nice group photo of your companion, I suppose after this shot you also jumped on another camel... A nice shot from the moon-land. Great sharp details and fine colour tone. Excellent shot with a beautiful backdrop. Tfs.

Des chameaux très différents de ceux des pays européen, beaucoup plus de fourrure et tant mieux vu le climat froid, une balade qui doit être agréable et très intéressante, belle image de groupe

Namaskar dear Subho
Wow I've seen camels like this before, obviously their winter coats and short legs have adapted over the millennia to the cold weather conditions. There are so many of them and I just love how they all look straight at you. I hope you didn't get stampeded! Excellent composition, beautiful colours and a superb decisive moment.
Thanks for sharing, have a beautiful day

the details of the camels are verywell
captured I liked your notes about
Nubra a high attitude cold desert
a different shot from the usuals
the framing with the row camels
the tourists enjoy them
Angshu (56406) 2014-04-14 6:36
My last post was also from Nubra, though not from the dunes, but nearby Diskit. These dromedaries and well wooly and furry...the ones we saw (in summer) were more rickety.
This is a fine group portrait...checking on the sawaris...the 4th from the left has to be a Bong...na hole bolo ;-)
ajayrawat (627) 2014-04-15 20:40
Thanks for sharing the photo, while it is intersting to look at it is also informative.
had you not mentioned about Laddakh anybody could have mistaken this for Mongolia or China. Surely adds up to the diverse touring opportunity India has to offer.
fabbs99 (16799) 2014-04-16 21:55
The race must begin now.All set to go on their exotic bactrian camels. To me it looks more like the scene from Avatar, where the hero goes to capture his flying bird and cruise in the deep gorges.Fantastic.Keep it going.

Interesting shot and a sight to behold!.I like to experience this one:-). Good sharp details. Nice one :-)
