Photographer's Note

Ruins of the Buddhist mahastupa (maha = great, stupa = heap) atop Bojjannakonda hill in Andhra Pradesh, India. Stupas were constructed of stone and brick, in which ascetics were buried in a seated position and were used by the Buddhist monks as places of meditation. These ruins at Bojjannakonda are about a millennium old and seem to hold within them centuries of wisdom and silence.
