These horses transport tourists and villagers around the Sonmarg valley in Kashmir. There is no other way except walking to move around in the upper reaches of this valley. They also transfer lots of load to the hotels in the upper reaches of the valley. I saw a horse going up with 4 gas cylinders, now that is a lot of weight. But due to long periods of insurgency and terrorism tourist inflow into the Kashmir valley is very less. It has brought disrepute to such a beautiful place. These horses along with their owners have taken the biggest hit because of this downturn.
Thanks for visiting.

I very like your composition. Great shot and beautiful nature photo.
Clarity and the sharpness are excellent.

I like very strong foreground in here - the grazing horses are very elegant subject. The snow capped mountain create nice contrast with the green hill and give good setting for the scene. The only detail which bothers me is tiny black bit on the right which could be cropped very easily. Otherwise, very good picture with saturated colors and proper sharpness.
Thanks for sharing

like this! A real sense of the majesty of the mountains here and made all the more so by your well chosen POV and the grazing horses. Immaculate light management and DOF. An attractive and beautifully inspiring image.
Have a great weekend - B.

beautiful mountains in bg and nice horses in fg.
good light management.
Romano46 (14444) 2014-02-01 6:29
Ciao e buon fine settimana

Thank you for sharing a beautiful image of this place like this. As you say in your note, this place is known for violent reasons, and from my home here in Europe, when I hear the name that is what I think of. But now, I have a much better image to visualize, and when I think of Kashmir, I will picture this instead. A fantastic scene, great positioning of the horses, and the light is just superb.
Thanks as always

Very nice catch! I like the (somewhat) parallel contours of the two horses in the f/g to the mountain in the b/g. Excellent DOF, great light and color management, this is truly a very pleasant photo.
rychem (15372) 2014-02-01 8:51
Very nice photo of the horses in the FG, but I like these mountains in the BG too. Imposing snow covered tops. Fantastic sunny day

Namaskar dear Subho
No this is what I call "al fresco dining with a view". These lucky horses are eating with one of the most beautiful views a person or animal could wish for. Impressive shallow depth of field allows us to concentrate on the 2 horses and yet appreciate the size and majesty of the mountains behind. The colours are true and realistic and the definition is flawless. A small constructive criticism is that I would have cloned out the small brown part of the horse (or man?) to the far right foreground of the frame. A small thing which does not take away from the beauty of the photo.

abmdsudi (35208) 2014-02-02 6:12
Composition and pov is spot on as It directs attention to the horses without being distracted with the majestic snow peak in the background. I love all the rich tones, sharp in focus finely captured and pleasure to view. I have one crit on you pp: the colours dont look natural with over powering blueish tinge, may i suggest you to check the RGB level and white coretions. Good to see you trying something different though. Congrats
Didi (52407) 2014-02-02 10:06
Interesting frame quality and nice parallelism between the two horses
It's possible to use a software to rorrect the UV dominant colour in altitude, that's why I have done a WS
williewhistler (10849) 2014-02-02 12:02
the horses grazing peacefully before the impressive mountain are in complete contrast to the impression of danger held of this spectacular part of the world.
Fantastic colours and sharpness.
I also enjoy your well chosen title!
Best wishes Les.
dekanski (1523) 2014-02-02 14:39
A great scene!
Unfortunately, composition is not so good: a mountain top is almost cut off, and on the right is something that we can not identify?
pierrefonds (52536) 2014-02-02 15:44
The distance between the horse and the summit is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the détails and the colours of the mountain and of the horses. Well done, have a nice day.
RhodieIke (10373) 2014-02-02 22:23
Wow what a fantastic view those horses have, the backdrop of this fantastic mountains make the image jump out of the screen, wonderful colours and light. Tfs, have a good week.
willperrett (4785) 2014-02-03 2:12
A spectacular shot of mountain scenery, given scale and presence by the foreground horses. But I hope you won't mind a couple of minor gripes: the mountain top needs a little more "breathing space" (the top of the frame practically cuts it off); and there's an object (another horse?) and its attendant shadow over on the right which I find a bit distracting. These things are easy to fix of course. A quick WS will show you what I mean.
Your photograph reminds me of one I posted a few months ago. Here it is!
aleXundar (1256) 2014-02-03 2:50
This is a fantastic composition. The horses are standing practically in the air! Very well managed mountain-top. Colors are superb and I think light management was a challenge... and you did it excellently.
SnapRJW (26020) 2014-02-03 4:39
Hello Subho - What a sad state of affairs, it is always the hardworking innocent people who seem to suffer through acts of terror and I can see from your photograph that Kashmir has much to recommend it to travelers. A shot where the composition has been carefully considered and shows the horses in there working environment. I might crop out the stray dark intrusion on the RHS through. Warm regards Rosemary
nikkitta (10386) 2014-02-04 15:37
Like the horses at the very front of the capture in great contrast with the impresive bluish mountain at the back
After watching the 2 WS from far I prefer the one from Will, a true expert in PP it seems
Original composition and informative note about this so famous region
jcpix (8274) 2014-02-06 15:18
Such a pity that an area as beautiful as what we see here would not be able to thrive due to current conditions. Quite a telling note, which has enhanced the overall mood of this shot...which by the way, is beautiful!
A wonderful compressed perspective, bringing the foreground and background seemingly this close together. It really accentuates the grandeur of the snow covered mountains. There really is a strong sense of altitude and distance as well, and I really enjoy the layered visual of the three distinct portions of landscape. I feel like I need some oxygen just looking at this! :) Fun title too. Have a great day ahead.
chrislo (3349) 2014-02-07 6:05
A very good shot with a great feeling of open space. I like this image where the position of the horses creates a subtle lead in line to the majectic mountain behind. Thoses horses sure look happy to be there and have the best scenery to enjoy for themselves. They really make the photo.
josepmarin (57065) 2014-02-10 0:53
a good management of the field depth in this capture, we can see all the details of both horses in foreground, and the majestic mountains covered with snow in background.
I like the quality of light and of colors.
It's a beautiful composition.
Miguel82 (16568) 2014-02-15 8:19
It's really similar to a landscape of Central Asia Subho, two horses are grazing, green lawn, pine forest and the majestic snow capped mountains in the bg, all the best, have a nice We
