~ The Fishing King @ Kingfisher ~
Kingfishers are a group of small to medium sized brightly coloured birds in the order Coraciiformes. They have a cosmopolitan distribution, with most species being found in the Old World and Australasia . The group is treated either as a single family, Alcedinidae, or as a suborder Alcedines containing three families, Alcedinidae (river kingfishers ), Halcyonidae ( tree kingfishers ), and Cerylidae (water kingfishers ). There are roughly 90 species of kingfisher. All have large heads, long, sharp, pointed bills, short legs, and stubby tails. Most species have bright plumage with little differences between the
sexes. Most species are tropical in distribution, and a slight majority are found only in forests. They consume a wide
range of prey as well as fish, usually caught by swooping down from a perch. Like other members of their order
they nest in cavities, usually tunnels dug into the natural or artificial banks in the ground. A few species, principally
insular forms, are threatened with extinction.
Now, without thinking about these data about the kingfishers...

the ray of light illuminates the vibrant feathers and the red beak of the bird, enhanced by the dark background. It is pin sharp whereas the bokeh due to the wide aperture is composed of light circles. Generally, they stay on a branch to look at the puddle under it and when they dive, they always catch a small fish or schrimp they ate on the same place.
Have a nice WE

kingfishers are one of my favourite little birds and this one is just amazing. They are so difficult to capture photographically speaking, so I am impressed with this shot. Love his/her pose and the detailing is just beautiful. Well done!
Enjoy the weekend - B.

Another delightful capture in this well presented series of nature pictures. The diagonal sweep of the twig brings strength to the composition. The bird is very well placed and the colours and detail in the plumage beautifully rendered.

Namaste mon ami.Décidément, tu sembles entouré de toutes les sortes d'oiseaux dans ta région. Cette lentille donne de très beaux résultats. J'aime toujours le choix de profondeur de champs.
