This is an important driveway of Kolkata.
Shot is taken from the South Gate of Raj Bhawan, house of the Governor of West Bengal.
When Kolkata (erstwhile Calcutta) was the capital of India, this was the official residence of the Viceroy.
South Gate is not the main gate of the palace.
There was a convention that the master of the house would use the main gate only twice …
one --- to enter into the building for the first time; and two ---to leave it permanently.
Normally, he would use the South-Gate.
So, this passage used to be the driveway of the person ‘in power’.

Good Perspective and depth. The Raj Bhavan seems to be peeping out of the cover of trees. Good low POV to get the full extent of the driveway. Did you get a chance to enter through those huge iron gates?
I can sense a theme to your shots- 'Historical Buildings of Kolkata' am I right? but wait please don't shoot the Victoria Memorial. It has been shot so many times, it has become bullet ridden :-)
Congratulations on upholding another beautiful aspect of our city.

Seeing this it's hard to believe this is right in the centre of the very large, noisy, crowded, polluted city of Calcutta (as I still like to call it). It's really like a very protected place. I like this symmetrical composition of the clean street leading up to the Raj Bhawan and I have seen that you have other fine photos from the city in your gallery. I happen to enjoy Calcutta very much. It is among my favourite big cities.

A majestic driveway and at the end, portion of what is obviously a majestic mansion. So, if I understand correctly, Calcutta used to be the capital of India during colonial times. Any idea why it was moved after independence?
A beautiful photo with a very informative note.

Great title for this image. The strong lines and dark colours leading the eye towards the pastel coloured building convey a sense of power and purpose. Well-done.

A pleasant not only cool in weather but the shot as well.and your effective low POV, exposure and composition. The striking lushness of green shades on both flanks and symmetry just drag the eyes deep into the shot to where the imposing building sits. The mist adds so much to an already excellent capture, Great! Tfs

You chose a very well angle, in centre of these entrance.
This cares for depth and perspective.
This building in background makes these picture attractive.
Excellent composition, nice presentation.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice Sunday,

Superb perspective, the straight road is well framed by green trees. The view to Governor House is excellent. The light is vey good and the colors well balanced. I like also the excellent symmetrical arrangement.

What a view this is and to see a road that leads to this scene a pure joy. I don't know enough of your beautiful countries history to comment with any certainty, but something about that building gives me the impression that it is peering out, almost like from hiding behind curtains, watching...waiting. It evokes a strong feeling. As well as that, of course a beautiful scene, the depth from the road, the framing with the trees, the contrast of light. All superb and a fascinating note.
Thanks as always for sharing your wonderful gallery, I continue to be fascinated by your work.
Best wishes from Ireland
