“Vijoya” is Victory.
Today is believed to be the day when Goddess Durga killed Mahishasura.
(Mahish is Buffalo and Asura is Demon. So Mahish-asura was a buffalo demon).
This is the end of Mahishasura, the most powerful anti-hero of Indian mythology.
He was blessed by Brahma (creator of the Universe) that he would not be killed by any living thing except a female strength (or Shakti).
Powered by the boon, Mahishasura attacked the kingdom of Gods and defeated them.
All the Gods were male!
Mahishasura started torturing sages, slaughtering men, women and children and finally tried to dislodge the Gods from Heaven.
Now, Indra, king of Gods, called an urgent conference of Gods to find out how to kill the asura. According to war-plan chalked out in that conference, a Super Energy, combining individual powers of all Gods, was created in the form of a female Shakti.
This supreme deity is Goddess Durga.
After a fierce battle that lasted ten days, Durga could ultimately destroy Mahishasura.
Though Bhagabat Purana says that the demon was terminated when Durga’s Chakra or discus broke the demon’s body into two pieces, the popular story is that the trident was stabbed into his heart to kill him.
To commemorate this victory - victory of truth over evil - the Durga Puja (i.e., worship of Durga) is celebrated every year in autumn as a festival.
Today is that tenth day, the day of triumph (Vijaya).
I wish Happy Vijoya to all.

Kia ora Alekhya (Greetings from New Zealand),
A very dramatic shot that truly captures the moment of Durga's victory. You could not have picked a better angle. Well done. Cheers, Neil

Salutations to the mother divine.
There is ferocious aggressiveness in Mahishasur's eyes, depicting blood. The artists from South and Bengal have always put their soul into their works, and the idols become alive.
The mustaches are big and impressive and with the passage of times Mahishasur now boasts of six pack abs.
His fall resulting from the spear head is evident.
Exuberant colors make this shot a piece of arts.
Thanks for the wonderful observance.......and equally great execution.

The colors in this are what drew me instantly into your shot, and on further gazing, the eyes of the character on the right are really engaging. This is a beautiful capture to go with your very informative note, thank you.
