Posting after quite a while in TE...was undergoing a bout of low motivation and enthusiasm levels :-)
It is not very often that one gets to drive on a road at an altitude of 18380 feet (5602 metres). That is where Khardungla Pass, meaning the ‘Pass of Lower Castle,’ is located on the way from Leh to the Nubra Valley in Ladakh. It is the highest motorable road in the world as signs put up by the Border Roads Organization proudly proclaim.
The Khardungla Pass experiences up to 10 feet of snow in winters, with temperatures dropping to 40 degrees Celsius below zero. Even though temperatures in summers average 20 degrees Celsius, the weather can turn for the worse suddenly. When we crossed this pass in June, snowflakes were falling – an indicator that one needs to be alert to harsher conditions anytime.
One should not expect much to do while here – except walk around a bit and feel the cool air (which can turn windy anytime) against the face and admire the views. It is not advisable to expose oneself to the elements for long anyway at these altitudes.
The views from this pass are no doubt breathtaking – with the Ladakh range to the south and Karakoram to the north. And snow capped peaks at almost touching distance all around. This is just a sample..You may notice the road snaking along the slope on the left.

Namaste Angshuman. Glad you are back and posting images of landscapes beyond our range of experience and dreams. What a majestic panorama. Wonderful sense of vastness, isolation and looking at the cultivated parcels of land one cannot but feel insignificant when facing nature. Regards. Klaudio.

ujna foto straordinaria nella sua eccellente definizione e grandiosa per il paesaggio rappresentato.
Bella nella composizione ed assai curata nel contrasto e nel colore, tra le più belle viste di questa splendida regione.
Ciao e buon inizio di settimana

Nice to have you back with this very strong shot
A splendid blend of colors
How do I regret that I was not at my best, due to altitude, to appreciate this place at its actual value

Hello Angshuman ,
The topography is absolutely stunning!
This is like the front cover of 'National Geographical'!
The subtle changes in hues creates distinct horizontal layers, which carry the viewer ever deeper, to marvel at the Nature.
A really fine shot.
My warm regards,

Hello Angshuman, quite a view here. I like the patterns on the ground. The composition is divided by the colors - earth like in the foreground and more icy in the background. Good take, i like the sky also.

Hello Angshuman ,
Wow ! An amazing mountain landscape ! I like especially the light and the sky .

The wideness of the area is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the mountains. It is clear and sharp. The good luminosity is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

Quel spectacle grandiose. Il faut en grimper un coup pour atteindre un aussi beau point de vue sur les neiges éternelles. Les détails sont d'une très belle netteté.

Came back with an absolute stunning mountain-scape. Different colors of mountains and the shadows here and there added different flavor to the picture.

Hello Angshu - I'm so glad that you are back with your unique style and fascinating shots. A dramatic and beautiful landscape where the contrast, colours and texture are beautifully balanced and the play of shadows across the mountains add atmosphere. Warmest wishes Rosemary

I think many of us sometimes go through periods when Trekearth becomes rather boring and not worth the time and effort, but I am glad to see you back. Your photos are among those that inspire me. We have seen this kind of environment before, but the Himalayas always provide views that make me breathless. In this particular case it's the contrasts and colours that I find most remarkable. This is as close to a 3D effect that a regular photo can get.

Hello, excellent view of a most remote place on earth. The clarity and dof is superb. Very high quality. Thank you for such good notes.

Spectacular POV, a real delight to see so many shapes and textures. Well taken.

Opening the thumbnail I started looking for the the Buddhist monastery, hidden somewhere in this vast landscape :) Of course, building at an elevation of 5602 metres, is not so evident.
The landscape is really awesome, not only by the snowcapped mountain range but also by the barren brown ridges at the front. A highly dramatic landscape! The most mild on this picture, seem to be the clouds.
Best regards, Paul

As I showed this photo to my girlfriend, she said she didn't realize India was so beautiful.
glad to see photos like this in India, shows the other side we don't normally see.
I wouldn't have thought this was India, great landscape photo.
almost looks surreal. majestic, as it seems to continue on forever.

It is spectacular land formation seen from very high viewpoint shaded by beautiful cloudscape and lovely light values between the shady and sunlit areas but mass of textures draws the eyes into this wide expansive mountain landscape. Amazing shot, lovely shapes, colors & light with wonderful touches of white snowy peaks and blue sky counter balancing the earthy tones really well. It certainly is a brilliant nature wonder shot with good perspective as well, an awesome sight to feast the eyes. Very well done shot and tx for sharing, Congrats

great the panoramic view of this section of the 'roof' with the variety of the mountain masses to enhanced from the falling light of the day.I like the different colour tints of the area, with the snows on the backdrop, to make the scene even more effective.

Bonjour, cher Angshu,

I've been more than 5 thousand meters over sea level some times during my trip to Bolivia and Peru, and it gets really hard even to breath, especially when we see breathtaking landscapes like this! The mountains are really imponent, and you captured them with excellent light and sharpness! Very good colors and depth! Great picture of a wonderful place! Well done!

Great to have you back with such a landscape, a place difficult to arrive and stay ( your comments)
Super informative note that helps to discover the going down route
What I enjoy the more is the Himalaya mountain at the far back
Beautiful capture, congrats
The higher I was is 5.300 meters crossing Tibet, I walked slowly and have no problems

Sorry, I've been really busy and not very inspire with bad connection. This is really lot of details to appreciate here with the wide sweeping view of the mountain range and value. I can see winding roads and path snaking through the landscape and the terraces of vegetable fields and houses of village. this take me back to my trip in remote part of countries like Nepal, Tibet or even some part of South America.
Excellent quality with so much details here.
mkamionka (38335) 2013-10-16 8:46
spectacular mountain panorama. I like how he shadows help to get a 3D feeling here. The clouds also create a nice play of the shadows over the landscape. Great processing which resulted in a drawing-like effect.

You have the whole spectrum here from lush fg grassland to dry steppe further up and magnificent snowcapped peaks in the far distance. Good sharpness and the blue sky contrasts well against the reddish yellow earthy tones in the midground. Tfs!

Namaste, my friend Angshuman,
a breathtaking natural spectacle in this image, you offers us a wonderful panorama on these mountains and these valleys, with the snow in the summits and the fantastic clouds on the sky.
The superb light and the shadows created by the clouds on this landscape, adds a strong aesthetical quality into the ensemble.
It's a beautiful composition, executed perfectly.
