Like it. The guys looking on and laughing are terrific. This guy looks like he is well in to dream land - hope he enjoyed it.
Was it so dark that you couldn't better depth of field? Although the focus is on the guy on the cart, the rest is very supportive.
arnabchat (7233) 2005-02-09 8:24
pretty funny pic. great work with POV. just like the way the others are laughing at your taking the sleeping man's pic. good daily life shot.
hugolef (4909) 2005-02-09 8:27
i like your daily life scene. This one in particular : i like the position of sleeping man, and the others laughing at him, being shot by you !
Great POV and DOF, great details. the tones of b&w are beautiful.
Morita (203) 2005-02-09 8:28
Very very nice. I like the depth and the position from where you are taking the photo. I also looked at the "another one" That one is more beautiful, this one is more humorous.
udijw (392) 2005-02-09 8:35
Good choice of black and white for this one, conveys great atmosphere.
great sharpness on the sleeping guy, I think the picture would have been even better if DOF was bigger.

maciekda (19895) 2005-02-09 8:42
this is cool, i really like the composition here with that sleeping guy in the foreground, i like these lines leading to the middle of the frame, those smilig gus.. really nice photo
and this B&W is great
Lio (809) 2005-02-09 8:45
I like it very much
tongapup (0) 2005-02-09 9:10
Excellent. No, the DOF is perfect. It's a lovely picture. It's kind of funny the way that rope is coiling above his head like a thought-balloon or something -- an empty thought balloon. Off to Sleepyland. It's an especial bonus that there's nothing crowding the sides of the photo. Good work. Did you have to sit on him to get this shot!?
olopez (4959) 2005-02-09 10:28
I would not change anything. B&W magnify it. Very good picture Shorab.
kabe (2011) 2005-02-09 10:58

I almost miss that one Sohrab, A great shot, full of irony, also full of life.. I love the composition very much and the way those guys are laughing on the other cart..
It's quite common in India as you say, but it's really refreshing seen from here..
I miss those indian faces very, very much.. Great catch..
ttmountainman (2279) 2005-02-09 11:20
Excellent shot going from real sharp to a nice grainy blur!!
Change nothing including the frame!
Ramonven (126) 2005-02-09 11:22
The working must take them all there energie for them to fall asleep like this... I like especially the people on the back of this picture! There sitting on the carriage and smiling... Take care! Ramon
Luko (13998) 2005-02-09 11:46
Aaaaw, wowoowooowwwwwow, easy Sohrab, what have you done there?
This shot has EVERYTHING!!! for me it's one of your best ever, such a classical mood in it, could be taken in the thirties, in the fifties with the ghost of HCB walking on your side, in the eighties during a short walk with McCullin, in the nineties while strolling with Rai, tomorrow or two years in the future : this is India like we would like to see it forever, the one haunting our BW photographer mind.
The really really BIG thing here is the circular rope... it's the feature that pushes it to excellence.... you know, the small geometrical details we like to find in HCB pics.

You are surely bringing some of the finest images appearing on TE from India Sohrab. This is very fine! You capture here the feeling of Delhi as I experienced it as a first time visitor. As Luko observes there is a timeless quality to the image. To my newcomer's eye, urban Delhi has a worn out quality to it, the product of hard use by many people. This scene tells the story well, with busy, cluttered streets.
You have a distinct advantage over many of us, as a resident of this country. The men in the midground are looking at you, perhaps with curiosity, or perhap with humor since their sleeping friend is being photographed. But even with your camera you blend into the street scene, bringing attention to yourself only when you raise it to your eye. You also bring the sensibility of one who is immersed in a culture, and for this reason I look with respect on the images you give us. Thanks for sharing your passion for photography with all of us.

Excellent choice of black and white.
Soft contrast. Original viewpoint.
Would have liked a DOF a bit larger.
alimo3 (6854) 2005-02-09 16:18

avis2avis (4264) 2005-02-10 4:22
This is most enjoyable. All comparisons with past greats are not misplaced! Take a bow sohrab.
everlasting (14343) 2005-02-10 4:54
Good POV sohrab, I love your daily life scenes, I am transported back instantly. The guys could see the funny side too.
ash_parikh (2266) 2005-02-10 5:49
Thats a great shot, really very well composed shot. Like the way you have included the background and still kept the interest at the sleeping man. I also have posted a photo of a man resting on his 'lari' http://www.trekearth.com/gallery/Asia/India/photo140885.htm
cool_krishna (465) 2005-02-10 7:02
Hi Sohrab. That is a wonderful composition. You are adept at the art of filling up the frame with the right ingredients. The best part of the image for me (apart from the obvious daily life feel to it) is the backdrop of Chandni chowk fading away in the grains. Thats spell binding. Though I would have loved the guys on the cart behind this one a little more blurred. Cheers buddy.
MKING (3054) 2005-02-10 9:19
I've tried so hard to get pictures like this but I can never work up the nerve to get close enough. I'm just paranoid aboutn the shutter waking the person up (my camera needs an overhaul since the mirror slap is louder than it should be).
The mood here is great-- his sleepy stillness against the traffic rushing past and the amusing onlookers behind him.
eleparc (24063) 2005-02-10 18:14
this one is stunningly good! could be a shot from HCB... congratulations! i like the way they all look at you and he is calmy sleeping , with a slight off centered position in the frame... spledid shot my friend!
joseelias (0) 2005-02-15 5:23
An amazing capture. Maybe this is a common scene in India but your POV, and image quality certainly gives it a unique perspective! The centered POV with the carts making a guide line into the background is something very unusual to be seen. Usually the lines are used to create dynamic feelings but here they create an almost vertigo sensation. Interesting.
Great DOF which puts the man in emphasis and BW. The work on the contrasts is very good enhancing all the details in the photo.
babul (612) 2005-02-17 12:03
is your nikon is manual or automatic and when you tacking the fotos did you shoting like a metering (aparature)? nice image sohrab and one more qestion what cane lens you have ?
ishai (4097) 2005-02-20 16:07
What a special capture
The way the guys are looking at you ,you did something that is not done every day
But the result is very good
To perspective POV and DOV are all very good
I wish I could rest like him (no worries …)
Enia (365) 2005-02-24 12:57
this is a very very original scene and of course your tecnhical skills captured it uniquely...congrats!
imoko (397) 2005-03-05 22:55
It is a photograph of a very interesting scene.
The black-and-white picture had fresh discoveries in your photograph though the atmosphere of India was transmitted though had thought that it was a country where the color was beautiful from the dress etc. though had not been by India. Thank you.
Darren (6823) 2005-03-24 11:02
This is great Sohrab, I just stumbled upon it tonight. The guys up front are laughing at you I think ;). Lots has been said, I dont' have much, if anything to add. Excellent.
chaitee (136) 2005-03-28 9:15
Wow. This picture is...just wow.....whoaa. It's a great shot. The elements and compositions fit together so swell, and the emotions are really there. Boy, what a pic!
Curioso (9271) 2005-03-29 12:40
Very appealling perspective. The scene is really nice with the laughing guys in the background. I like the grain and the DOF which enhances the perspective and put a great focus on this sleeping guy. Only the round rope above his head is a bit distracting... Well, could be a kind of surnatural spirit looking after him ???
flydragon (0) 2005-04-08 19:23

I Love it.
designsoul (21492) 2005-09-03 13:11
Shorab, marvellous shot, and the use of b/w is adding to it!
The fellows laughing in the background look wonderful, and so is the man in the front, oblivious to their myrh and your taking a shot!
Bennett (764) 2006-04-07 21:18
Ditto Luko. India is photographers heaven. Your work is growing day by day. I'm so proud! And jealous.
PS. Did you see my Salgado article? Can find it on LensCulture.com. It's pretty informative and entertaining, if I do say so meself.

Grea POV and depth-of-field... and the b&w does the job.
