On Bijoya Dashami women converge at the makeshift temples or pandals set up across the city to bid farewell to the Goddess and her four children with vermilion and sweets. This day is marked with 'Sindoor Khela' or, smearing of the vermilion. After bidding her farewell, the married women smear one another with sindur and pray for their long and happy married lives. It is believed that sindur khela dates back to time when the tradition of Durga puja started nearly 400 years ago.
The Bengali women folk adorning traditional dresses here offer vermilion at the feet of the Goddess and then smear each other with the red vermilion, wishing long life for their husbands and peace and prosperity for their families.
In 1924 it was shifted at the junction of Bagbazar Street and Pashupati Bose Lane. Next year it was placed at Kantapukur and in 1927 it took place in the Bagbazar Kali-temple.
With time the Puja after locations shift transformed itself due to public demand as Baghbazar sarvajanin durgotsav from a baroari Durga Puja.I went there & take this shot... hope you all like this...
Subho Bijoya :)

A perfect portrait!! The expression on her face tells the entire story. Vivid colours and vibrant expression on her face is very well seen and well captured. Very nicely controlled DOF, together with fine contrast separates her expression from the background. Simple yet a very nice presentation adds to the charm of this photo. I like the image very much.
With my very best regards,
Have a great week ahead, Madhumita

a nice one describing the festive mood. The vermilion play is showed to us nicely in bright day light (and of coarse without using flashgun which is possible in your case due to bright sunlight. Excellent exposer management and with nice depth. A great shot. Tfs.

Visi e colori ...anzi colorazioni , e sorrisi , un senso di piacere in questa cerimonia ...
Sentirsi bella ed offrire la bellezza con tranquillità e consenso .

The tight framing worked very well and also avoided the crowd of people to focus more on the hand applying kumkum on the lady's forehead during the pooja. She might have seen you but still she kept a natural pose. The blurred lady in Bg balanced well the compo.

A very good portrait. I like the sharpness and the depth of field. The framing is also successful.
