[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This photo has taken in the grounds of the Monastery at Pedong. It was late in the afternoon and we had low light as the monastery is situated well down the valley. It was probably the time for the young Lamas to excercise their soccer skills. I captured one exciting moment here, all the lamas eagerly look up as the ball balloons in the air.

This is an uncropped image, and I had kept the lone goalkeeper at the bottom of the frame.

The monastery is considered especially holy by the Bhutanese Buddhists who visit Pedong in large numbers. The monastery was constructed by the Bhutan's king in 1873. The Monastery showcases large number of very old paintings.

Pedong Monastery also hosts an annual mela (festival) in April in which monks dress up in costume for a masked dance in honor of Padma Sambhava or Guru Rinpoche, the legendary saint who is said to have visited the area on his way to promulgating Buddhism in Tibet, and a traditional archery competition is also organized.

The adjoining lands belong to the monastery. The green paddy field around are indeed a treat to the eyes.

More on Pedong here.

a fun image arnab. It reminds me of a movie made about the world cup and tibetan monks.. Don't remember the title.
The main element here is the monk at the bottom of the image. It's balancing the all image. I wish the horizon could be straitghter.
Still, it's nice.

nice fun picture, reminds me of a film shaolin soccer, i think that is the film claude is refering too, nnice picture it seems all balanced. well done

Well taken photo of a fun subject. You picked a nice moment to freeze the action. The movie Claude mentions is called 'the cup' and was filming at Bir (or Billing) Monastery in the Kangra Valley (near Palampur).

Arnab, good compostion.Good colors.

I like it,Arnab, very nice dynamic with redish poeple framed by green, and a great POV you had, nicely done, very well composed and beautiful.
Thanks for sharing, glad to see it and you, too:)

Hello, Arnarb, a capture plenty of action... but I agree with Claude words... the tilt bothers me a little...
I´m out of workshops today...
Anyway, I like it. The purple clothes contrasting with the background are stunning.
Rgds,

hi arnab
cool photograph
what i really like about this composition is the monk (probably the goalkeeper) at the bottom of the photograph. i'm happy that got just his upper half in the photograph. it makes the photograph more dynamic. apart from that ,, like others have already said , it's a fun photograph. nice to see some greenery too along with the football
is pedong anywhere near siliguri?
take care :)

Compliments
Jean Michel

Even religious people can have fun too yes. But I found it "hard" to imagine playing on a concrete "field". It looks like a concrete foundation or containment. This is so in contrast with the soft green terraces outside this playing field.

very nice scene, unusual. i like the compo with the cropped monk in the foreground. bright buildings are a bit burned out and the picture seems to be crroked a bit, but these are minor flaws. nice work.
Arnab! you live in a great city, you should go with you camera sometimes to explore those lively streets, all those photo opportunities waiting for you... i wish i was there now!
