You may think that with her fine jewellery she is going somewhere other than to work on maintaining the road in Kumbalghar. She, together with other women, diligently breaks the stones smaller for the team, (normally their husbands) repairing the dusty road.

Hello elaine,
A fine close-up portrait brought in fine colours, clarity and spontaneity. And yes, it is surprising how so many people in India, rich and poor, keep up their clothing and decorations. I often think that they must regard Western tourists as very clumsy and badly clothed people.

The framing for the portrait is excellent, with her arms. The colours are absolutely life like. Lovely sharpness & clarity which IMO brings out her inner dignity very well
