This photograph shows a mummyfied himalayan sheep hanged inside the Dhankar monastery. colours are applied at the nose and horns of the sheep. scarfs as offering are also seen.
Dhankar Gompa (monastery) is a Buddhist monastery situated in the Spiti vally of Himachal Pradesh, India.
This monastersy is associated with the Great Translator, Rinchen Zanggpo. Dharkar was the capital of Spiti in 17th century. The fort monastery which also served as a prison in 17th century is located
picturesquely on hill above the Shichilling village which now has the new monastery.
The monastery is at a height of 3900m and is located at distance of about 24km from the town of Kaza.
