I like to do all sorts of portrait photography, sometimes up-close, sometimes in their immediate surroundings to convey further information about the person.
In this case, the environment is an integral part of the image, as I found the doorway so attractive. I also wanted to put the three men in the street context, which is a significant display of daily life.
The sign on the right side is for Sathi Lassi, arguably the best lassi in all India. Sathi's lassis can be found in his aplty named shop, on Chorbhuja Road in Bundi. His lassi is flavoured with saffron, sugar, honey, cardamon, cashew nut, pistachio and raisins. The texture is fantastic and it is so full of goodies, that instead of the usual straw, it must be eaten with a spoon.

Very picturesque scene. I like the trio and the urban colors, textures and shapes. Well composed.

You're right about the doorway, it's absolutely wonderful and even on the steps we can find some craftowrk. India is surelly a wonderful place to discover those architectural details.
Here a zoomed portrait with the faces or even with part of their bodies would have a grid as background which surelly wouldn't be as insteresting as having the surroundings, and having it you also profit from the color of the grid without it being too intrusive.
Love the colors around the doorway and the way that the decay even makes them more interesting.

Dear Andre my friend!
Aaah...Bundi! I don't think I ventured to this street...but maybe we did...but certainly I do not remember this lassi shop! Just reading your note makes me go slurrrp
The fine doorway which once adorned perhaps a small haveli is remarkably maintained...almost like the 'Haathi Pol' in Bundi Palace
Great environmental portarit...just wish one if not all 3 had a Sathi Lassi in their hands...but perhaps the photographer had :-)
Have a great weekend my friend!

Hello Andre - It's amazing that the people pictured here live with this highly decorative and skilfully made stone-work every day. To my eyes, it looks so exotic and valuable, to them, well I guess its just part of life. A beautiful architectural shot given context by the trio of men and what is obviously a shop next door. A very good image of a way of life so very different from my own. So colourful! have a lovely weekend. Rosemary

The surrounding is great here Andre!
and Caleb would call this an enviromental multi or triple portrait.
You had perfect light here and managed a great shot with many fine details to view.

Thanks for sharing.

A very nice picture of every day life in India. The three men sitting relaxed on the stairs, the flaking pain and the cases of empty bottles, all together form a great trio of interest.

Ce portrait de groupe in-situ est vraiment parfait associant les trois compères à cette magnifique porte en arrière plan. De la photo de reportage de très haut niveau que tous les magazines de voyage s'arracheraient pour faire leur couverture.

Thanks for your note I now know what lassi is - it sounds lovely. There are some super elements to this picture. I like the blue gate and then the more faded blue paintwork. The three men add a lot of interest. A very interesting image with a composition that is well organised and not over-complicated.
Kind Regards, Ann

Sitting as I am, eating a slice of toast, the idea of having a bowl of Sathi's lassi sounds wonderful to me!
A lovely group portrait, beautifully framed by the ornate gateway, the three men looking quizzically at you but apparently quite content to be photographed. The scuffy tired paintwork and crates of empty bottles are in marked contrast to the detailed and intricate carvings of the gateway.
Lovely vibrant colours, perfect exposure and, as always, stunning detail and sharpness.

The design of this gate is simply stunning! You have found really wonderful moment for taking this image. People are a very important element which brings life into the scene. Extremely interesting and beautiful composition. Congrats!
