Keshoraipatan, located some 20 odd Km from Kota, is one of the oldest towns in India and was named as Ashram Nagar in the ancient times.
The famous temple of Keshav Raj or Kesorai (The Hindu God Vishnu) stands on a strong base of a very big platform on the bank of River Chambal. It is unique in terms of its wonderful architecture and sculptures and one has to climb a flight of steep stairs to reach the temple. The temple is elaborately carved with sculptures of various gods and the activities of their followers showing the daily life of that time. The pyramid shaped very high shikhar (tower) is built something like in South Indian style.
The walls of the temple have an elaborate carving work with images of various Gods and Goddesses. What makes the temple magnificent and artistically rich is the immaculate sculpture and architecture. In every inch of space on the wall and in the niches, images of animals of elephants, horses and images of Gods and Goddesses have been carved.
The Kesorai temple took 391 years to build & as far as known, was renovated by King Shatru Saal of Bundi in 1621-30 AD.
Here one can see three devotees, doing Pradakshina, meaning circumambulation of the temple, after having offered their prayers to the Temple God. Pradakshina literally means: to the right (Dakshina means right). Thus in Pradakshina, one goes clockwise to keep the deity around the Sanctum Sanctorum on one's right side.

The presence of the persons has an effect of scale. The point of view is showing with precision the details and colors of the architecture of the Kesorai temple. The noon light does not hurt the output of the colors. Have a nice day.

Indian temples at their best!
As often you were attentive both to the architecture and the life around it and the result is a masterpiece of grace and beauty. Beside that I love the intense light and colours here, maybe because at the moment winter has its grip again here... (:-) Those walking women make the image dynamic and much alive.

Appealing blend of the colours and the architecture. The heads are always turned away this part of india, isnt it ? - they are very shy and sometimes kind to face the camera..i did try a few portraits and candid ones too...but i guess it all depends on how comfortable they feel looking at you and not the camera
have a nice we

Hello Mr. B,
Your gallery, replete with the rich notes that you always provide, represents a first class tourist guide for visitors to your domain. This image from Rajasthan, characteristically composed well, exposed perfectly, featuring resplendent colors and complemented by pedagogical note is in that tradition.
In mid-July I am scheduled to give a talk in Bangkok. The dates of the conference (18-22 July) are set, however, a few days before or after the conference schedule affords us (my wife and me) some time to travel. Since this area is diametrically opposite my world in the Eastern United States, I see two possible scenarios. #1 make this an around-the-world trip, making short stops, or #2 fly to Delhi, and visit my friends (the Nehrus) in Chandigarh, make a brief trip to Agra, before or after the Bangkok visit, then return to the United States without extending the trip to an around-the-world flight. Any suggestions, and will there be an opportunity to meet you?
Warm regards, Angshuman,

The details and the beauty of the temple alone is well worth seeing and enjoying this image here. The inclusion of the locals indian weman in colorful outfit walking through adds the strong cultural element to the composition. Great light, good details of the stone art of the temples. I can all those little elephants, everyone of them is accounted for. Really beautiful work. My complements.
Thanks for you honest words on my Iguacu image, I like the fact that you said as you think, It's only then do I learn. Thanks.

Once again your well-thought out framing allows us to aprreciate the details of the temple and the women's saris; their graceful floating character contrasts well with the solid and elaborate perfection of the carvings. Including that patch of blue sky was also an inspired decision.
Atousa (7123) 2010-05-08 6:18
