Jantar Mantar, Jaipur:
These two snake charmers were showing off their beautiful cobras which seem to be dancing to the tune of their wind instruments at the entrance of 'Jantar Mantar' the observatory.
Info from Wikipedia: Many snake charmers live a wandering existence, visiting towns and villages on market days and during festivals. With a few rare exceptions, however, they typically make every effort to keep themselves from harm's way. For one, the charmer typically sits out of biting range, and his animal is sluggish and reluctant to attack anyway. More drastic means of protection include removing the creature's fangs or venom glands, or even sewing the snake's mouth shut. The most popular species are those native to the snake charmer's home region, typically various kinds of cobra, though vipers and other types are also used.
There are many pictures of these Snake charmers and their snakes in the web. They seem to attract anyone who visits this place, including me.So here goes my share of salute to those men and their pets.
No PP involved other than adding the frame.

nice picture. Everyday life is good theme. Interesting colouring, good contrast. Orange on orange - I think this isn't easy.

I like these depictions of people in their everyday situations. The expressions on the charmers faces ...a little sad and weary..... suggests that it is a tough way of making a living. Aside of that.... the composition is excellent as are the colours and an array of textures. I think I would have cropped a bit more from the bottom though.

a pleasant orange colortone here to spot these two snake charmers out towards a sober textured background.
A pleasing shot

Two extraordinarily men, typical Indian colours for attire of the men together with the snakes, the expressions on the charmers faces certainly the man to right. It's a game!
You did very nice composition.

Another beauty of a picture... nice bright colors and expressions of the charmers (dunno about the snakes!)...
How about some more sharpness?

Quite impressive picture! It's hard for me to image that it is "Daily Life". Not used to see snakes on our streets ;-)
I like the contrast between the pale (wall) and bright (shirts) orange.
Those 2 cobras look like they don't like the left charmer. Maybe a false note ;0
Thanks for sharing

I enjoyed your gallery; neat and clean full of meaning, vividly expressing the various facets of our great country.
This shot generates interest because of the great composition in orange and brown. The windpipes and the snakes add a thrilling touch to the picture.
Next time whenever you find such a situation again, try to take a close up of the charmer. They dress up beautifully with the colourful pagri.
Love n regrds,

I was away for a month so I’m looking through your gallery to see the photo that I have missed... So funny to see the same snake charmer I have photograph nine months ago! I can see that he’s working in pair now... He has change his flute, basket and turban, but the shirt is the same. :-D)
I like your version Vikram, with cobras being charmed by the same flutist. Also, the way the man at left look at you, it seems that he is charmed by your lens...
Have agreat week-end!

balatrek (7455) 2006-09-23 6:37
Fantastic photography, the colours are intense and beautiful, he is impressive to see as the cobras dance to are of music, interesting moment, congratulations.

very attractive subject and well framed! The moment with the cobras in motion and especially in the same style was very good, too. The details are fine and the colours original! Thanks for sharing.
