In fact I really like B&W pictures but I don’t know how to do it. We say that it is necessary to see the photo in black and white when we take it but I have already hard work in color. Maybe it's like learning to ride a bike... so I try... in the water !

Un bel homme avec de la prestance et de l'élégance
Le traitement en B&W lui va bien
Manque peut être un poil de netteté sur le visage et d'espace au dessus de sa tête
Très bon néanmoins, je suis exigeant !

whats not to like!
again, taking advantage of the rain and wet soaked streets.
I'm also liking the noise in the photo, adds some old time feel!
It could honestly look like the photo was taken 50 years ago.

Hi Bernard !

Your presentation reminds me on a classic film from the 50's titled "The bike thief" created by Vittorio de Sica, maybe you have watched it too. Great, old style composition, nothing to complain about, except for the rain :) Tfs.

Intéressante mise au point sélective. L’homme semble anxieux de pédaler sur cette rue innondée.
Certes il a le type Hindou, mais sache que des Egyptiens qui vivent à Suez sont d'origine Hindoue.
Je vois que son pantalon a des patdeph :)

Le ton sépia nous ramène aux années 40

Bonjour Ber & Nard!!!! Test?

Le N&B sert en général à augmenter les contrastes; ce n'est pas le cas ici car tu n'as pas un éclairage franc! Je l'aime bien, mais je trouve qu'il est trop dans la boite et n'a pas assez d'espace autour pour respirer; on ne distingue pas bien les torrents d'eau sur la chaussée.
J'aime bien aussi ton léger sépia qui donne un air rétro.
Futur pro pour le tour de France?

Un beau portrait Bernard. Le noir et blanc marche à merveille et ça pourrait bien être une photo d'une autre époque. Et puis toute cette eau et la pluie créent forcément une atmosphère particulière. Pour ce qui est du peu d'espace au-dessus de la tête de l'homme, c'est un peu vrai il me semble que ça n'a pas l'air très confortable! Et concernant les éléments dérangeants que tu as sans doute eu raison de faire disparaître, près du cadre à 10h, j'imagine qu'avec un peu plus de patience tu serais arrivé à un meilleur résultat! :) Mais, pour revenir à l'essentiel et terminer sur une meilleure note, un très bon portrait, original et plaisant.

Le contraste n'est peut-être pas assez fort et le cadrage un peu serré en haut et en bas mais je trouve l'essai assez réussi quand même avec une profondeur de champ bien réglée.

GREAT SNAP. the man seems to be interesting.and whole rain adds up to give the pic a classical look....think the mans clothes helps too to add to that feel.

I am not a big fan of black and white, but I appreciate people that look to this type of pictures.
I've a lot years have to work with black and white picture, than came the colors picture with very bad color, but today we have perfect colors.
This is a very good picture, you shall learn in future the perfect black and white pictures to make.

Hello Bernard - I feel a bit like you with regards to B&W conversions and have tried a few, some successful some not. One thing I have learned is to attempt to have a pure white and a very dark black, that contrast is important. There are various methods for conversion and I don't know what editing programme you use. I do a B&W conversion (rather than a de-saturate) with a plug-in Colour Efex. I can them work with the filters. The man's face is well lit and the detail is good where it need to be. My only suggestion would be to leave a little 'breathing space' around the figure.

(yellow gives good contrast and dramatic dark skies, brightness and contrast. From there I make tweaks in levels and curves, sharpen etc. Lisa (Delpeoples) uses Silver Efex to great effect in her B&W editing.

This image looks good to me, you have the whites and blacks and a good tonal range in-between

Hi Bernard,
Great scene, the finish looks timeless too, such is life in the stormy seasons - I can feel the weather. B&W is tricky stuff, I find I push the blacks/shadows more now, to avoid the 'grey' look, that said, it is always a challenge to decide between B&W and colour.
