Bhainsrorgarh or Bhainsror is an ancient fort that has of late become a tourist spot in the state of Rajasthan, India. The famous British historian Colonel James Tod said, after seeing the splendid and mesmerizing beauty of Bhainsrorgarh, that if he was offered a Jagir (fiefdom) and given an option to choose it anywhere in Rajasthan, he would choose Bhainsrorgarh.
Bhainsrorgarh is located 50 Km from Kota & the journey along the road takes 1 hour. Bhainsrorgarh is an impregnable fort, inhabited from at least the 2nd century BC. The present fort is around 260 years old and was built around 1750. It is dramatically positioned on the bank of a 200 ft deep Gorge created by River Chambal & part of the palace you can see on the left, has now been converted into a 5 bed room luxury hotel. The bridge seen in the BG is the same one as seen in this picture.
Very nice scenic location indeed...there’s still quite a bit of rustic ness about this place which I liked, for example the flowers in the FG, they are wild, but so colourful! To illustrate the beauty of this fairly unknown and rustic palace/resort, this may not be the optimal picture, but thought I share with you this, so that some of you can make plans to stay in this luxury hotel! The palace rooms converted to this Hotel are to the left...further down, is the part of the palace which in not very good condition, & which I believe, under repairs. And yes, before I close, I must clarify, I am not getting any royalty from the palace/hotel for this.... ;-)

No doubt about it. The view is magnificent. And the shot too, with excellent composition, exposure and colours. I love it.

Un très joli cliché avec ces constructions à l'architecture intéressante et élégante. La vue est imprenable et les fleurs en 1er plan ajoutent une note de couleur.
Merci pour cette belle image et bonne journée.

Good Morning Angshuman,
I was so surprised when I read your notes, my first impression was that this looked so English! It looks like one of the palatial hotels on the sea front!
However, it has much more history and romance than I ever imagined!
A well composed shot, offering a good lead to the focal building and with beautiful, vivid flowers to excite the f/g.
Have a good day,

Namaskar Angshu da,

The point of view leads my eyes toward the bridge then toward the horizon which is giving depth to the composition. It is also showing the details and colors of the hotel. The trees are framing well the hotel. The morning light has a good effect on the colors. Have a nice day.

During break i made it to the nearest bookstore and flipped through raghu rai's taj mahal...not sure how i missed it..prehaps it has reached the store now..
Every photo has the taj mahal with some romantic juxtaposition and no two photos are even remotely similar or something youve ever seen before..it was journey..it was special..have you seen it ??
this post reminds me of what i had gone through hours eariler..touch of romanticism...it oozes from the photo..

The view is gorgeous, and so is this image with excellent POV and composition so well balanced. Great DoF, the foreground leaves and flowers and the fort is completely sharp with good clarity. I like the subdue tone of the sky with beautiful gradation of blue.
Another excellent shot, my complements.

I really like the left sided heavyness, contrasted by the right sided lightness - they balance each other very well.
The inclusion of the flowers in the foreground add some colourful punch.
The light exposure is nearly perfect,
extremely well done and executed
have a great day

How many palaces and forts have been turned into hotels in Rajasthan? This one here - in particular the location, not the architecture - reminds me of some palaces at the Loire in France. It looks reasonably well restored, almost authentic I guess. At least these forts and palaces will keep the history of the Maharajahs alive. Vibrant colors and fine sharpness too, well done

The stately old building at left appears to be a fine choice, to renovate as an hotel. It has a good view, & is close to the river & bridge. Good informative, note, & the flowers at lower right, add a welcome splash of colour. Tfs!

A fort which was a palace, and a palace which has become a hotel. Good light, and I agree with the nice colors of the red flowers in the foreground.
All the best,

Namaste, my friend Angshuman,
An excellent framing to show us these wonderful views that can enjoy from this former fort.
I like the graphical balance with the fort at the left side and the river that leads our eyes towards the horizon, with a great depth of image.
The light and the colors are perfectly managed, and you have obtained a really attractive composition.
A nice work.
pablominto (53746) 2009-11-08 5:44
Beautiful location for this fort, controlling the traffic on the river very well!
I notice the fine light, and the red flowers offer delicate colour contrast...
Great feeling of depth and wonderful colours!

L'architecture est splendide, la vue profonde du fleuve et les fleurs rouges en font un merveilleux cadrage, très belle image

when we travelled in India, we had a chance to stay in Samode near Jaipur, and the place was simply breathtaking, especially after dark, when there were fireworks against the black slopes of surrounding mountains. would give a lot to be able to go back there :)
I agree about the appeal of the place in your photo, "rustic beauty" is a good way to describe that, the palace certainly has more character than the polished glass&metal boxes of new hotels that are similar all over the world. good idea to include the flowers in the foreground, it's a great colour accent, while the river adds a lead-in line. nice :)
emka (91512) 2009-11-11 6:35
I love your country so much. Very beautiful photo of the fort on the river. yesterday we visited wonderful town of Orccha, it was splendid. After agra, wwe go tomorrow to Jaipur.
Kielia (24077) 2009-11-11 8:42
maybe it is not optimally showing the beauty of the building, but it is in connection with the other images you have already posted giving us an idea of the loveliness of this place. Once again this fantastic light and the amazing colors, especially the blue of the sky and the river. Staying here must be a treat! My compliments!
Bergenphotos (2862) 2009-11-16 8:49
These views are beautiful. You managed to make a good composition with the river coming into the right side. The bridge fit very well into it, and in my opinion lights up the river a bit. There are many different colours and indeed a wonderful castle. TFS.
Longroute (19396) 2009-12-10 6:36
A superb architecture, a beautiful scenery and a masterful composition.
To transform an ancient fort into an hotel is really a good idea, and I guess what an experience it should be to have a room there! This photo is vibrating with light and the river gives a very good sense of depth and space. I like very much the very Indian atmosphere it conveys. A place I would like to visit...
