Photographer’s Note

Une noria d’éléphants conduit les touristes du village en contre-bas jusqu’au fort d’Amber, un joyau architectural de la région de Jaipur au Rajasthan. Ceci aux premières heures du jour uniquement, car depuis l’accident en septembre 2005, ces éléphants ne font plus que trois montées par jour et avec pas plus de deux personnes sur leur dos. Ces animaux, au nombre de 65, une fois leurs rotations terminées, sont ramenés à leurs écuries où ils peuvent alors se reposer et où ils sont nourris et soignés. Parfois, il arrive qu'ils soient "de service" pour un mariage ou autre manifestation.

A noria of elephants take tourists from the hamlet below to the Amber Fort, an architectural jewel of the Jaipur region in Rajasthan. But only at the first hours of the day since, after an accident in September 2005, the animals are limited to three uphill travels with no more than two adults on their back. These animals, a total of 65, are then taken back to their stables where they are fed and cured before resting. It happens sometimes that some of them are hired for weddings or special ceremonies

Hello Patrick,

Elephants feet have to get very well maintenance.
You was on the just moment on the just place.
Excellent addition of the man under the elephant this is excellent for the scale.
Colourfully image, nice photo job.

Hi Patrick,

An amazing shot indeed! I have a picture of an elephant and mahmout taken at Amber on my page, as well as one of an elephant's feet taken while it was kneeling to receive tourists on its back, taken outside the City Palace complex in Jaipur.

The elephant have to get very well maintenance.
The man need to have some courage to get there, if I was there I don't get under the elephant

Cette photo montre bien l'intime confiance entre l'éléphant et son mahout. Impressionnant, que cet homme accroupi, vulnérable, sous la masse imposante de l'éléphant! Touchante, la docilité de l'animal qui tend sa patte à son "maître" (bien que la relation fasse plutôt penser à une symbiose qu'à un rapport de domination). La lumière et les couleurs sont superbes, encore une fois. Et le timing est bon. Bravo.

Salut Patrick,
Je ne suis ni spécialiste de l'Inde et encore moins du Rajasthan et du coup je ne sais pas à quel accident tu fais référence, mais cela n m'empêche pas d'être fascinée par cette photo. Quel plan! ce soigneur est vraiment bien petit entre ce pattes immenses mais son massage doit être des plus relaxant vu la facilité avec laquelle le pachyderme se prête au jeu.
Belle scène d'une vie qui ne m'est pas quotidienne!

This is a fantastic scene, as well as the usual very good composition from the technical point of view.
There are actually so many good shots in your galler. I have seen another old one, which came out random...
