Assis sur les genoux de sa maman dans le ferry qui nous conduit à l’île Elephanta à Bombay, je le vois qui m’observe avec la curiosité innocente de l’enfance.

Sitten on her mother’s knees on the ferry taking us to Elephanta island, in Mumbai, I see him watching me with the innocent curiosity of childhood.

Un choix de cadrage osé et étrange. Pourquoi ne pas avoir gardé le petit bonhomme en entier? Mais ça a au moins un avantage, outre le fait d'éviter un certain classicisme; c'est que celà reporte toute notre attention sur le visage de la mère et en particulier sur son regard qui s'évade. Elle a une expression singulière, où pointe une tristesse ou une nostalgie insondable, de la compassion, de la retenue... enfin, beaucoup d'émotions avec une sorte d'affaissement qui confine à l'abandon. En celà, le contraste avec le regard fixe et vindicatif du garçon est saisissant. Bravo.

bonjour patrick,
sometimes what matters in a photo is not exactly places where one can expect it, or where the rules say it should be placed... and this is good, because we don't always look at the world around us with the same eyes. sometimes our peripheral vision detects things that are more important than the rest... like this little boy, looking straight at you.
well chosen angle and cut, I like it a lot.

Eh bien moi, j'apprécie au contraire ce cadrage différent, avec seulement un oeil de l'enfant!des cadrages comme je les pratique; bien vu!

le cadrage est surprenant,au début,je n'ai pas accroché,et plus je regarde cette photo,plus je trouve que ça fonctionne bien!On s'attarde sur cet oeil malicieux,puis on passe à celui plus rêveur de la maman,en passant par les merveilleuses couleurs du sari!La netteté est irréprochable,bref,cette photo ne peut laisser indifférent tant les émotions sont palpables!Superbe!

Hi Patrick, this is a beautifully crafted portrait. Nice tilt on the woman's head, the slight blurring of the costume. And the cleverly cropped face of the child, unusual - but very effective.
