This is a sitting style which can be seen across India & in countries in Asia. So much so, that this posture is called ‘Asian Squat’ :-)
Scene in the morning at Sumrasar Sheikh, a village 22 km from Bhuj, famous for Kala Raksha Center, the Art & Crafts preservation centre, which is thriving since its inception some 30 years ago
Men & their Morning Newspapers! Balancing himself in this squatted posture on a not-so-wide stool, he seemed immersed in the newspaper article about the Earthquake which had struck Bonin Islands in Japan on December 2010. So immersed was he, that he didn't seem to be even aware of my presence

the colors are superb, and what I like above all is the the pose of the man on the stool, this pose that European people can't do for a long time.I add it in my theme.

Cela ne semble pas une facon très confortable de lire son journal. Une belle pratique équilibriste.La lumière est magnifique et les nouvelles sont intéressantes.

Hello Angshu - Now that's what I call good balance (I'm talking about the man perched on the stool here)! A marvellous DL shot with an excellent low POV which seems to emphasise his balancing act. Warm regards and TFS. Rosemary

The man is well placed in the frame. You have captured well the action of the man reading the newspaper. It is clear and sharp. The morning light is enhancing the beauty of the colors. Have a nice day.

great the snapshot with the native man to read his news paper with this quaint way.
I wonder how long can he stay in this deep squat as looks like to be so attentive reding the news.
Excellent the light and the colour management of this interesting snaphot of the city.

Its these Truly cultural shots that I really enjoy the most on TE! I guess one could argue that every photo has cultural ties, but i think you know what i mean.
I've never heard of the Asian Squat before! very interesting.
its great too that you included the tall iron door/gate in the bg, even with the lock on it holding the 2 doors together. the only color that really pops is the yellow turbin, but still, its a captivating scene for many reasons.

Hi Angshu, very often I'm sitting like this in front of my PC. Excellent photo of this old man. I like how you managed to obtain that serious expression from him, not taking any knowledge about surrounding world. Excellent viewpoint, sharpness, colors & light.

I like this image, you captured an interesting scene of daily life, the position of the man is eye catching, well seen and presented,
josepmarin (57473) 2012-06-07 12:52
Namaste, my friend Angshuman,
I believe that I might not be a lot of time sat under this posture, which seems to be a bit uncomfortable.
But it is a traditional position that does not seem to worry this man, reading calmly the newspaper.
It is an image very sharp and with a splendid light, I like the quality of the colors and the structure of the composition.
A great work.

This is common throughout south & south east Asia but my legs would cramp if I squatted like that! A wonderful warm cold color contrast between the yellow turban & the blue sky. Good sharpness & excellent graphism & composition. Tfs!
marcan44 (6223) 2012-06-09 10:31
bellissimo taglio dato all'inquadratura che mostra questa strana e particolare posizione di lettura dell'uomo che non si è accorto per niente che veniva fotografato.
Scena di vita quotidiana realizzata con grande professionalità, bravissimo!
Didi (54995) 2012-06-10 9:44
Interesting scene with nice colours and lights.
The man is not posing for you a very good natural attitude.

Judging from pictures on TE Indians seem to be among the busiest readers of newspapers in the world. This may not statistically be true at all, but no doubt Indians read their papers in positions and places which make them extremely photogenique. This is a splendid example in an appealing morning light with perfect contrasts.
CLODO (28938) 2012-06-19 22:25
I like this particular position of the Indians, but I am surprised because he is on a stool! Nice everyday situation well framed from a low POV to make sing the contrasting colors.
