Surprised at Ludiya, a photo from Gujarat, West

Photographer's Note

The village of Ludiya epitomizes the case of the traditional village of these parts, with characteristic lifestyles and built form. The building pattern emerges out of the processes of evolution of a socio-culturally and geo-climatically relevant and contextual built form. This village also has a stark and visibly distinct character which easily helps distinguish it as representative of villages in this region. Strategically located near Khavda, and being nodal in terms of proximity and available infrastructure (electricity, water supply etc.), the village was ideal for demonstration of the participatory method of design.

Ludiya village, lying deep in the hinterlands of the Kutch region, has more or less completely retained its authentic and original character, both in terms of the built environment as well as the lifestyles of the people without getting affected by extraneous forces.

But things seem to be changing....over the last decade, renowned photographers have been coming to this village to take pictures of the villagers in their colourful dresses. And the villagers have got the scent of money....

The little girl seems to be surprised as we were about to enter the village

Good morning Angshu,
very pretty photo with sense of humor. I like the expression on the little boy's face - so well caught! The colors are amaizing and very cheerful. The idea of placing the boy next to the drawing of man on the wall adds a little bit comic element to the whole image.

I haven't seen this house, I guess! I found this village really beautiful but more turned to tourism than the others I have visited.But surely a great place for photos!
I like the composition a lot, with the colourful walls and the child at the door. I really liked that region:)!

Great street shot, This is a nicely observed piece of social documentary and your ability to observe photo opportunity is an inspiration, showing the contrasts, cuture & tradition and differences between the surprise young girl & the wall mural in juxtaposition with a cheery feel. An excellent candid perfectly timed brilliantly, great ideas with the strong contrasting colors of the wall really pull the eye in and this actually lifts and makes this image flows. Good composition and nice timing to capture this shot in good tonal tange. Great work, Congrats.
