Prag Mahal is one of the main tourist attractions in Bhuj city of the western Indian city of Gujarat. This palace was built in 1879 and it took 10 years for the completion of its construction. It is constructed using sandstone and Italian marble.
Located next door to another palace, Aina Mahal, in the same walled compound, Prag Mahal at first seems slightly out of place at this small city in the far western edge of India, looking more appropriate in Europe instead. But then again, globalization is not a new phenomenon. This is a palace built in the middle of Bhuj, commissioned by King Pragmalji in the 1860s, designed by Colonel Henry Saint Wilkins in the Italian Gothic style and involving Italian artisans in the construction.
Lovely shades of reddish, brownish and sandstone colors - mixed with sunlight falling on it – creates rather exquisite an ambience. The city still has a small town mentality, waking from slumber a bit late…people lazing in the early morning, soaking up the winter sun...and what better place than in the compound of a Gothic palace?

J'aime l'impression de jour après jour qui se dégage de cette image, comme si les postes étaient réservés aux mêmes personnes à tous les jours.J'aime le jeu des ombres et de la lumière qui donne l'impression que la journée sera très chaude.

The presence of the people has an effect of scale. The point of view is allowing me to distinguish the details and colours of the arches of the palace. The good luminosity is enhancing the colours. Have a nice day.

I like very much the look of the elderly gentleman, dangling their feet in the air (two of them at least) and enjoying the sun. They give life and a pleasant atmosphere to the picture and are excellently supported by the pillars and vaults of the palace. This is a good combination of human touch and interesting architecture, and the colours and sharpness are as good as always.

Une scène matinale paisible, très joliment composée, avec les belles arches du palais en arrière plan et ces trois hommes bien placés dans l'image profitant des rayons du soleil.

Interesting architecture and wonderful use of colour. I like the men sitting below the lovely arches - it seems in the sun rather than the shade so perhaps not so hot yet in the winter. An excellent composition and note.
Kind Regards, Ann

We have the fascinating well preserved historical architectural features here and you have captured all the texture and detail perfectly for the variations in the colors and the red stonework as a whole. It also makes us think about the history of this place, and you do this image with such style and skill at the right time of the day when the subtle warm light nicely filtering through giving wonderful tones, shades and shadows. To me what so striking is the arches and the Corinthian columns (correct me if I'm wrong) and the old folks are there aiding you with your impressive compo. This is what we are all about at our best, building that stands the test of times, past times and present. Quality shouts at you, My congrats.
