Prag Mahal Palace, Bhuj, Gujarat :
Rao Pragmalji’s Palace is across the courtyard of Bhuj. It was designed by the British engineer Col. Wilkins, but some people believe that he was an Italian. This palace was officially started in 1865 to replace stables and small buildings. It has a wide and large Darbar Hall (25m x 12m) that is 12m high with verandahs, corner towers and zenanas decorated with carving, gilding, Minton tiles and marbles. Good views of surrounding countryside from the tall clock tower are connected to the palace by covered galleries. This palace was built for Rao Pragmalji II (1860-75) by the British architects and the Kutchi builders. Darbar Hall is a museum of Victorian-Edwardian taste with tiger-skins and mounted trophies on the walls, stuffed lions and Art Deco figurines. In one side of the palace, the Logge in Emilia or Romagna and in the second side, the ample terrace are situated. Both these places give us the way to a treeline on the horizon casting shadows into the limpid lake. A jigsaw of red-tiled roofs and trees still deep green months after the monsoon ended is in the third side of the palace. A magnificent cornucopia of fantastic carved wooden balconies and window-screen enlivens walls are in the opposite side of the palace.
Of course the play of shadows & light on columns appealed to me. The silhouette of the ticket seller was a bonus.

Nice lightning well exploited through the exposure work: good rendering of details in light and shadows and the nice warm tones on the stone pillars.

The distance between the desk and the wall in the background is giving depth to the composition. The arches and columns are framing well the scene.the point of view is showing the details and colors of the columns. Have a nice day.

J'aime beaucoup la construction de cette image. J'aime le personnage dans l'ombre qui raconte une histoire, j'aime la lumière sur les colonnes ainsi que la superbe forme de l'arche.

A stunning piece of architectural shot nicely cropped to concentrate the eye in the symmetrical area. You have a good eye that sees things others would just glance at and not give it a second thought. The soaring beauty of this wonderful structures is captured perfectly with a great angle, subtle shadows, light and colors with a fascinating effect, in particular the detail of the arches are well registered and the warm glow, the strongest eye puller is delicious indeed. There is great balance of exposure between the brigthest and darkest and this looks so pleasing and smooth, a real pro! This adds to its splendour with excellent sheer beauty. A remarkable photographic work, my congrats and tks for sharing.

Quite amazing that is in India and furthermore in Bhuj !
Are you sure you did not mix up shots of your trip to Florence or Rome with those of the Khutch, LOL !
A good one anyway, very intimate, with this excellent management of exposure, not an easy game here
Next post, an image of Naples with a temple to Durga !?
Have a nice evening, best regards

Namaste, my friend Angshuman,
a good balance of the difficult light in this capture.
You have reached a fantastic chiaroscuro playing with the silhouettes of the man in foreground, and the well lit image outside of the palace.
The composition is beautiful and is subtlely executed.
A great work.

Great work with the arches, using well the symetry of the columns and enriching the composition with the sitting man (it seems) as a sillhouette and colorful elements in the bakcground. Excellent, very well done!

A splendid architecture shot with a great and attractive contrast between the lit parts of the arches and columns and the darker parts.
From you POV the arches look like they got a golden frame.
Very beautiful with the silhouet of that person.
Best regards, Paul

Bhuj - a place still on my list to travel to, and when I see an image like this I wonder why it has taken me so long.
The black frame works a treat! The golden pillars and the silhouette are exquisite.
Well done Anghsu, especially the light management.

This has been taken with great care making the most of the light catching the pillars and arches. There is detail where it matters and the black shadows and frame enhance the colour of the stonework. Beautifully rendered.
Kind Regards, Ann
