Photographer's Note

This is a black and white conversion of the very first photograph from India which I posted to TE - I just wanted to see what it would look like in monochrome - this man's family were really helpful to me when I was ill and I took a number of portraits of their family and with their livestock which i sent back to the village. A picture of his wife was part of an exhibition called Mothers of the Nation - Daughters of Independence which toured for three years on and off as part of the Leicester City Gallery touring scheme and I also used her image in an interactive underground installation myself and three others created to mark the devastation of the Gujarat earthquake. (Some people left this exhibition crying and some Gujarati residents came every day like it was a shrine.)

I have such strong memories and connections with Gujarat - so many friends and to some of whom I owe my life.......how objective can one be about a photograph which stirs emotions in such circumstances.
