Here on the first landing of the vav and cleverly nestled between supporting pillars for the superstructure are four, for want of a better word, shrines. These structures, complete with door, window and balcony, are located one at each corner of the landing. Their decoration is luxuriant. The shrine in this photograph is at the northwest corner of the landing, and lower right, it is possible to view the commencement of the stepped corridor.
My guide pointed out that this particular shrine in its decoration accords 100% with Islamic sensibilities. In a few days I shall upload photos of the northeast shrine that display a larger Hindu decorative component.
