Photographer’s Note
An old lady doing her laundry. Picture taken in April 1973 in Panaji, Goa. At that time Goa had become popular among hippies, but the hordes of Western package tourists were still years away and the beaches were empty.
This was scanned from an anonymous b&w negative.

Hello Gert.
Another great picture from long ago. I remember the hippy types always talking about Goa, in the 1970s. I am sure you could go there today and still find a quiet corner where the same scene could be photographed. Your scan is a good one and the contrast is pleasing. Maybe you could crop a little off the right side, and quite a lot off the bottom, bringing the woman a little closer.

Andrew

Hej Gert,
A very good photo and I know that you have already answered Andrew about a crop. But I wanted to see this myself, so I made a WS and decided to post it as well. You have to look at the subject here, which is indeed very good, with the diagonal curb as the base.

Hej Gert,
I really don't know whether the photo looks better if the right side is cropped... then we have two different photos which focus on different things. I like both (WS version too). It can't always be a photo of only a person.. a bit of the surroundings tells a lot, too!
In any case, very good scanning job!
Wishing you a nice week ahead,
kind regards
Elena

This is a great wake-up call for all us women with the fancy washers and dryers who complain about the amount of laundry we have.... Goa is an area I would love to visit someday! Very nice b&w with good detail. TFS

Hi Gert, Nice shot of the old lady. Goa - nice place. I was there also. And out of season it was quite empty - I mean without Western tourists. Amazing quality of the picture and scanning.

Hello Gert,
I am not great fan of black and white, maybe the long time formerly in black and white.
Your picture have an excellent impression of the daily life of the people there in these environment.
Also perspective and depth are lovely.
Very elegant for look at.
Nice done, TFS.
Regards,
John.

Hi Gert,
Nice Goan daily life shot (I live there since 25 years, so I know what you are talking about when you mention package tourism... In these days there was no plastic bags and Goa was clean and natural.... Now it is covered with plastic and ugly concrete structures right on the beaches...
Keep them coming!

Hello Gert. Laundry. Work of the women. You caught this aspect of the daily work very beautifully with your camera. The composition is exemplary. Altogether a strong picture. Best regards, Wolfgang.
