Photographer's Note

The city of Old Goa was the capital of Portuguese India for three centuries, until it was abandoned due to diseases... Its population was roughly 200,000 by 1543... It officially ceased to be the capital in 1843.
Now it is a well known religious and touristic attraction, as the relics of St. Francis Xavier are kept in the Bom Jesus Basilica.

This is St Cajetan church, one of the least visited of the Old Goa site.
Modelled on the original design of St Peter's in Rome, it was built by Italian friars of the Order of Theatines, who were sent by Pope Urban III to preach Christianity in the kingdom of Golconda (near Hyderabad). The friars were not permitted to work in Golconda, so settled at Old Goa in 1640. The construction of the church began in 1655.

La ville de Old Goa fut la capitale de l'Inde Portugaise pendant trois siècles, jusqu'à son abandon pour cause d'épidémies de choléra et de malaria ... Sa population était d'environ 200.000 en 1543 ... La ville a officiellement cessé d'être la capitale de la colonie en 1843.
Aujourd'hui, c'est un site religieux et touristique fameux, surtout grâce aux reliques de Saint François Xavier qui y sont conservées dans la basilique Bom Jesus...

Voici l'église St Cajetan(Gaëtan), l'une des moins visitées du site.
Calquée sur le modèle original de St-Pierre de Rome, elle a été construite par des moines italiens de l'Ordre des Théatins, qui ont été envoyés par le pape Urbain III pour prêcher le christianisme dans le royaume de Golconde (près de Hyderabad). Les frères n'ayant pas été autorisés à travailler dans Golconde, ils se sont installés à Old Goa en 1640. La construction de l'église a commencé en 1655.

Bonjour Laurent ,
Une composition idéale , pour nous montrer cette belle et imposante église blanche , bien cadrée avec l'arbre à gauche , et qui bénéficie de la présence de ces couples avec leur parapluie (...sol ?) .

Excellente qualité d'image, à la fois en terme esthétique et artistique.

La composition est bien équilibrée, les sujets sont bien disposés - belle succession sans chevauchement - et la lumière offre des contrastes qui augmentent les volumes, tout en saturant les couleurs de façon naturelle.

This is a fine composition of the interesting church, a bit of the park and people. The tree and the four nearest persons balance the picture well. Above all it's a very well exposed photo with excellent contrasts and fine colours.

This old church, a distinct Portuguese-Indo flavour, really caught my eye, I just thought all about its style is beautiful. You got the compo just right a nice filled in frame playing with many element around and is perfect to keep the eye into the perspective. What glorious colours, contrast and perfect light to show off the subtle tones picking out the detail of the architecture superbly. You've captured the magnificence of this structures so well. Very punchy light contrasts with good sharpness & superb color & saturation. The old British Victorian architecture has been well cared for, with the path adding good lead in lines & linear perspective. Wonderful exposure on the highlights too. Tfs!

Hello Laurent - This is a lovely shot. The church with all its detail is attractive but for me the shot is enhanced by the two couples walking towards it. With their sunshades held aloft, they add an old-world elegance to the image. Super. Warm regards rosemary

Bring backk so many good memories to me when I was there back in 83 ;=],seems not so much has changed..
I can almost feel the heath seeing the black umbrellas,I do like the white lungi of the gentleman on the righthandside ;=].

C'est une église vraiment belle!
C'est une photo intéressante et attrayante!
La netteté, la gestion de la lumière, les couleurs, le format horizontal, le pdv choisi et la compo m'ont plu beaucoup!
J'adore la présence de ces gens-là, avec leurs habillements typiques d'Indie! Sans eux, on croirait être dans un pays différent, peut-être, Brésil.
