Photographer’s Note
A photo to express 2 sad moods.
Goa is our final stop before going back to Mumbai to take our flight the day after for Paris.
Last stop, last days in India, this meant the end of my INDIAN DREAMS ... There is this strange feeling when you leave a country you enjoyed so much.
I dreamt of those promenades along Calangute's beach, watching the sunset, drinking, last talk, last smiles, shooting the VERY last pictures of the place ... well we tried to happily live the last moments .....
Damn the clock alarm just buzzed, it's 4:30am, we need to leave the bungalow. The day before, I asked a taxi driver to pick up, we finally agreed after 15 minutes of bargain ... but not sure if he would show up though ... We cannot miss our flight ! I looked throught out the window, I saw the taxi ...
Yes Honey, that's it we cannot avoid this moment, say 'Bye Bye' to the beach, say 'Bye Bye' to the kids, say 'Bye Bye' to the sunset ...
It took us about 1 hour to get to the airport under a heavy, very heavy rain (we had only 2 days of rain during our stay, hopefully this one happens now ...)
I was still sleepy trying to imagine myself still in India, I can barely open my eyes, I could only see scrolling in from of my car's window: the early workers (well something that looks like human), palm trees, the first lights of the city, some reflections and other undefined shapes I did not even try to figure out ...
The street is wet, the driver looks tired ... I hope he will get us to the airport ...
2nd sadness: France lost the soccer World Cup ! Another dream that abruptly ended ...
It's over ...
Thanks, Alain -
PS: not sure I will succeed to convey this travelling mood ...

Hi Alain,
May you have pleasent memories from my country, full of colors and contrast, where language changes after almost every 20 kms. India is a land of emotions and devotion. The next time you pay a visit , come to Northren parts of India;the green lands of Punjab and Haryana, the state of faith-Himachal Pradesh, the snow clads mountains of beauty-Jammu & Kasmir.
May your journey is always peaceful is the only prayer from an unknown friend.
Roses from India,
Rajeev

Tu as touche a quelquechose d'universel ici, mon ami et c7est tres beau...
Bonne journee,
Francis

Moi j'aime !

Hi Alain.
This one is beautiful. That black and white, that composition, that feeling,... sure, this picture is a winner.
Thanks for share.

nope, this one doesn't work for me Alain, I know that the goal isn't to show the outside world but the inside of your own world in the context of where you were and how you felt, it is a bit difficult for me to put a finger why, perhaps because I can't really recongnize any shapes, perhaps something that I can identify would hold the composition for me a bit better, as it is it lacks something for me.
Are you familiar with work by Micheal Ackerman? among others he did India in black and white, awesome stuff, I am sure you would enjoy it.

Even though I don't get the chance to travel as much as I'd love (which means almost always!) these times, I well recall times I felt the way you describe... longing for the last drops of a magical land (for me Italy, last time) I am about to depart from. This shot does give back that mood, that moody feel I would say. Gorgeous, atmpospheric rendition. Love your experimentation, Alain, and your daring. Great grain blurred in motion... you are about to go back to Paris... (but hey, that is not so bad after all! ;-)

Nice surreal mood, post-modern, lonely, meditative. Very well taken as a parting shot. Very very nice.

Although this photo lacks content as there really isnt anything of material here, it does a great job of conveying a mood. Strange shapes that we cant identify and the dreamy (or rather nightmarish) darkness are great. Such wonderful grtain as well, film like in every way.

Alain,
I am finally flying to India this weekend ... and I can oh so well imagine what you might have been going through before leaving India.
btw ... I came here not to talk about what you wrote in the note ... I like this photo for the mood that it conveys. I love the grain in it, the abstracntess ... the monsoon feel and ofcourse the window.
excellent work ... this photo reminded me of one of the first photo I had taken with my digital camera two years ago ... I think I will post it sometime
have a good day
cheers ... sarju
PS: thanks for your help with nikon .. I finally ended up buying a canon 30D
