So we stopped at Rajkumar's child place (remember Raj, he was our driver in Tamil Nadu). He wanted to show us his family temple and the place where he used to have sunday lunch on temple grounds.
Rajkumar was apparently considered as someone who did well in life, he walked in proudly in his always impeccable white shirt and pants, as everyone came to meet in.
He introduced me to his childhood god who very weirdly, looked like a thicker Rajkumar, in a more theatrical, less sympathetic, way.. and a slightly bluer skin, all the more.
Perhaps Raj junior had been quite impressed on his sunday afternoons, with these furious eyes watching him play cricket in the grounds nearby.
I must admit I never succeeded in memorizing the god's name, I felt a bit ashamed to ask him for a fourth time, failing to mentally spell it, due to thick Tamil accent.
A small goat was being attached to the statue stand, waiting for a sinister ending as an offering to this blue folk. As it seems the cutter guy was getting ready for his achievement, I prefered to leave. Not a good afternoon for small goats.

Now here is a dynamic compo along the vertical. I would have entitled it "UP!!, as it gives me that feeling entirely. The link between that berserk-looking blue God and the fiery man is extremely well constructed. I love the bit of tilted banner in the background among the palm fronds - it is precisely this kind of detail that makes a shot for me, that "situates" the thing. One of your best, most ferociously decisive shots from India thus far, IMHO.
Funny, our roles are temporarily reversed - I'm concentrating on critiques and saving my bulets until Vietnam next week - had to take a rest from the feverish postings, deletions, the whole mess...;o)

A hilarious note to a typically southern Indian catch made photographically strong by your inimitable style of doing something different...here it is this hand and the bent body along the vertical diagonal.

I don't know, I want to like the shot...know what I mean. We have an interesting background...a dynamic foreground. Color saturation that only digital PP can provide. Tight framing of the subject and his nemesis/God. Just something seems too distant to me...I would get it if the man was facing, or atleast making a move, towards the Statue behind. It does seem obvious and less complex than your presentation, but sometimes simplicity is what makes the photograph strong. For me, there is no reference point for this mans gesture...maybe if we saw a goat lying with a string leading to this mans lowered hand...so...
Interestingly enough...if I saw this shot in other peoples galleries, I would say great shot...well done etc, blah, blah...BUT, you know what's going on, what the deal with real photography happens to be...sometimes that last cog in the wheel is missing. So...good shot, just missing the unexplainable for me.

Ahh what sad story for the little goats;)...glad you left and didnt inflict us with that part of the ceremony.
You convey a sense of excitement and movement with this static shot, Luko, the determined old man getting people out of the way of the presiding bizaare-eyed god.

Both sets of eyes in this image is the drawcard for me, first those intent and hypnotising eyes from the statue, and the serious look from the man. The colours in bokeh look good as well.

Ooohhh, I like the huge blue Barbapapa. His eyes are most certainly leading the arm of the devotee and most certainly all those around who're expecting a galactic trip, on a comet's tail, towards the absolute knowledge, or absolute being, or absolute nihil. Anyway, absolutely delicious note, pretty much in your very personal story teller style, and a very strange, 60's like, Lucy in the sky with Diamond's like, photograph. The completely overexposed sky makes me think of what I heard about an LSD trip (never tried it myself).
