She was near one of the temples of the sacred hill in Mamallapuram. Apparently, not older than 7, holding a baby that she was treating like a doll. Too shy to do her job - of begging - properly, she kept on hiding on the rocks, still staring at me.

I love the face of this young girl.The ray of light is also welcome. Children seem to be always smiling in India, not like in the western countries..

This is such a strong picture of contrasts. The stone, the frailty of the children, the colors, the smile and the poverty; the juxtaposition of all these create a powerful image.

i have taken some pictures with people that are this amazing (and heart-breaking). i have had the same problems: lack of sharpness and focus. when i travel next i will always "bracket" my shots with several exposures. don't worry about film cost. just take as many pictures as you can.
