The Rangaswamy Peak near Kotagiri, Tamil Nadu is a conical structure that is at a height of about 5855 feet above sea level. The hill on which it is situated is considered extremely sacred and legends have it that Lord Rangaswamy lived here when he left home to be alone. On the rocks of this hill just after the Arakadu village lie two footprints that is believed to stand testimony to this story.
The Rangaswamy Pillar is found on the north-west of the peak. It rises in grandeur to a height of about 400 feet as an isolated rock pillar with ‘unclimbably’ steep sides.
