that rare feeling of travelling in time. A wood and hay market in Karaikudi, a neglected place in Tamil Nadu, which is definitely worth visiting. The intense light is at about 5.30 in the afternoon, just before sunset.

I think this is a wonderful picture. You caught a great subject with a great background. The position of the oxen's heads adds even more.
I did some editing on this one and would suggest the following considerations:
Do some selective brightening on the people's faces. There's plenty of detail there that can be pulled out.
Crop up on the bottom a bit and a tiny bit off the right.
Clone out the faint power/telephone line.
Decrease the saturation a bit. The color is somewhat too intense for my eyes - but this could simply be a difference in our monitor settings.
(I'd post a Workshop but there's this limit....)

Good composition. A great TE photo which shows us how other people live. The building also looks interesting - pity the trees block most of it. The 'intense light' has created very warm colours. Thank you for sharing this picture.

A good shot margherita!!! Karaikudi was once the place of hte ultra rich...you could have exsperienced it from the huge and artistic houses(so called). The inhibitants of karaikudi were the people of poompuhar, a rich port town those days and migrated to karaikudi after the port down submerged under the sea.The migrants looking for a place without the threat of water, settled in karaikudi.you can witness their fear of water from the high raised construction of building foundation. As you rightly said a must see for every traveller.
