Photographer's Note

Inside the perimeter gate of the temple, as one walks toward the gopuram, and on the left, there sits the superb 100-pillared hall. This hall or mandapa may be used for weddings. 100 pillars are a few more than the number absolutely required to support the roof. I read somewhere that there are in fact only 96 pillars (12 x 8) but these serve as the canvas, so to speak, for a mass of very fine carving. I believe this view is toward the northwest end of the platform, and the entire structure is just to the south of the tank. I could not begin to interpret each of the depictions.
